As a newbie, here is my first post. I installed '69 hubs with roller bearings on my '57 spindles and it seems like the hubs and /or spindles are two long or to short, etc. as I can't get the cotter pins into the bore without over torqueing the nut. Have I missed something, or has any of you encountered this problem ? Seems like my only solution is to machine the hub to allow the outer bearing to seat in further.

Get some 61 to 68 hubs. They will work on the shorter spindle.

Are you converting to disc brakes, and is this problem with the rotor/hub? If so, this is a common problem. You either have to cut the nut down, turn it backwards, or elongate the slots.

Otherwise, you need to use the 61-68 full size car hubs, as said.

"Otherwise, you need to use the 61-68 full size car spindles, as said."

Wouldn't that be hubs?

You're right, it's hubs. Not enough coffee yet this am.

You can't have 69 hubs as they use A5 and A3 bearings which won't come close to fitting your tri-5 spindle, bearing inside diameter way too big for your spindle. 1961-1968 hubs are what fits using the A6 and A2 bearings.

Forgot to add, 61-68 hubs will use regular castle nut without problem, maybe you're using a Chevelle/Camaro hub which would put the flange off a lot?

Thanks, guys. So glad I joined this site.. I appreciate the insite to my problem. My next move is to get the earlier hubs and go from there.

I'm certain you got 1968-72 Chevelle/1967-69Camaro hubs, you need hubs from a full size car, Impala-61-68

The hubs Maddog suggest will bolt up to the spindle, sometimes with the spindle nut problem asked about. Those hubs have the wrong offset for the drums.

You can buy deep cut crown nuts (CPP and others) they allow the cotter pins to go in. Many articles have been written on this, from deep cut castle nuts to drilling the spindle. A common problem.

he needs the right hubs which don't need a special nut.
