Has anyone mounted modern style GTO seats in a Tri five ?

I'm sure they have.

Mounting any late model seat is pretty much the same. The floor in a 55-57 is 1-1/4" higher next to the trans tunnel than it is where the stock seats mount.

What I did with mine was make an outer mount from 1-1/2" square tube with brackets that let it bolt to the original seat mount bolt holes. On the inside I used a 1/4" x 1-1/2" rectangular bar. That inner mount bar extends back so that the rear mounting bolt goes through the long cross brace under the floor. In front there's a tab bracket that gooes through the floor, and the floor is reinforced.

Another way to do it is to use a thinner outer mount, and to cut a channel in the floor for the inner mount so that the seat is level side to side. This would let the sit lower. But for my Chrysler seats, they will go lower than a stock seat even with the mounts I used.

camswingman8x, do you have a pair of them? I used 2000 Eldorado seats in my Nomad, and I've built some custom mounts to sell for installing those seats. I would think the late GTO seats would be kinda small, since it's a small car. I bought a pair of late 90's Lexus SC300/400 seats and I thought they were too small too. The Eldorado seats work great in these cars. Another choice might be the later Monte Carlo seats...they look pretty nice too.

yes, I have the gto seats already. I've seen them in tri fives at car shows. I guess that the next time I see that I will ask to take a look at how they were installed.

camswingman, could you post a picture of the bottom of the seats? I want to see the seat tracks. Also, what's the center-to-center distance between the seat tracks?

I went with GTO seats in our 55. I wanted to use the back seat as well, but it just wouldn't work.

those gto seats look great in that car. they look sporty to me. can you tell us more on installation? did you bolt them flat on the upper part of the floor. did you cut any off the top or just remove the head rest? how wide are they across the bottom? would appreciate any info. thank you in advance.

Older thread - was there any additional follow-up? I am looking at buying '04 GTO seats for my '57 and any insight on installation would be much appreciated.

How does the seat height compare to the original seat , does it sit lower than stock

Those GTO seats look great in that 55 but the GTO is a pretty small car. I still wonder how they really "fit" the car and how much room there is between the seats. I tried Lexus SC300 seats, and they seemed small to me inside the Nomad but I know guys use them too. The Cadillac seats I went with seem to fill it up better and look more like they belong there to me.

As for height, I doubt the GTO seats are much lower than any other power seat. I measured my Cadillac seats and posted that measurement here once. The stock seat height is 12.5" from the floor to the top front of the seat.

I think most late model seats are very similar as far as the height and height adjustment. Part of the reason for that is that none of the OEMs make their own seats, and they all buy from the same suppliers.

When you start looking at how to mount a bucket seat on the floor of a 55-57, you'll first see that the area where the original bench seat mounted is about 1-1/4" lower than the floor is adjacent to the trans tunnel. So to level up the seat mount, you can either build up the outside or lower the inside.

I chose to build up the outside with a 1-1/2" square tube, and the inside with a 1-1/2" x 1/4" bar. Even with the spacers, I can lower the seat to where it's lower than the OEM seat.

Your other choice is to leave the outside seat mount at original height, and tunnel into the floor for the inside mount.

Just finished making the brackets for the Lexus buckets going into my 57 Nomad.
These are raw and fugly, but stout.
Will be covered up by uphostery/carpet, so ignore the uglyiness please...
