Vice modification

After fighting a way for years to hold a large vertical item securely, last week the light finally came on. I took a piece of 3/8 " plate and cut two pieces 1 3/8" x 8" and machined them to fit one of my vises. Got some longer fasteners, attached them to the jaws and my problem was solved. Maybe this will help one of you too.

You could take that one step farther and put two V blocks there so that the piece would be even more secure. They wouldn't have to be attached to the jaws, just pieces that slipped between them.
