I have installed a 700R4 transmission on a 265 V8. It requires a starter plate to mount the starter. I ordered a dust cover from Summit Racing to cover the open area beneath the flywheel / torque converter. It doesn't come close to fitting. I tried to modify it but the fit is so bad, I gave up. If any of you have experience with a dust cover for a 700R4 installed on a 265 V8 with a starter plate, I would love to hear from you on how you were able to cover the area below the flywheel / torque converter.

I'm thinking the starter plate is the problem.

Can you just cut the front of it off?

The starter plate is in the way but there isn't any way to modify it. I tried to modify a dust cover so it could be installed with the starter plate but had no luck. The starter plate is Danchuk part No. 10100 and is only required when mating a 700R4 to a 265 V8. The instructions for installation are great until you get to the dust cover - no instructions for this are provided. I am beginning to understand why!!

Almost all of the dust covers out there are "universal". They are supposed to fit 700-R4, 200-4R, TH350, etc. but what that really means is that they don't fit anything very well. Throw in your starter plate and it's really hard.

I still think you'll have to just cut it up - the dust cover, not the plate.
