Now for my next question..how should I lift the body off the old frame? Do I need to worry about hurting the body if I lift it from the rocker panels? I have a lift, floor jacks and jack stands. Anything anybody thinks I should be careful of? I'm alittle on the nervous side, lol. I have everything unhooked. Figured I could lift the body off the old frame and roll the new one back under it and lift it from the frame again. Also some of the bolts don't go all the way through to the inside. Could I drill holes and plug them? Anybody done this before? Any suggestions?

If you have a lift it should be pretty easy to get the body off. Just make sure everything is unbolted. I personally would not lift by the rocker panels. I would put blocks of wood (like a long 2x2 or 4x4) under the floor braces on both sides to lift it with.

Ok.. I'll give that a shot. I just figured there were too many braces in the way. I was thinking of running a 2x6 with a slot cut in it for the rocker lip for each side and picking it up from there. I fell in love with this car and I'm worried something goofy will happen. Like the windshield popping out. I do have some rotten luck sometimes. Haha. I stripped out the seats and carpet last night after work. To start welding up the firewall where the clutch assy customized it. The floors look really good. Looks like its water tight. I'm dropping the front end parts out of it now. I'm going to clean up all those pieces and coat them with some of the leftover paint from the frame. Should look pretty good when it's finished. I'm already excited even though I'm a long way from being finished.

What about balance of the body? Looks like my only lift points will be under the front of the doors and right in front of the rear wheels. Leaves a lot hanging off the rear. Also I'm having trouble with the front springs. Is there a special spring compressor I should use or will any work on it? The one I have isn't compressing the spring enough to make it loose the way I like them to be before I undo the ball joint. I'm getting close to getting the frame swapped out. Been more work than I had planned. But I'm having fun!

I got the new frame under the 55 today. Everything went smooth. No scratches in the paint, no skinned knuckles. It was a good day.

Does anybody need anything off my old frame? Has good body brackets, frame horns etc.. I'll cut them off for you and leave plenty to weld to. Just pay for the shipping! I hate scrapping something someone else could use!

Danny, I could use a few of the brackets if they're not rusty. Sent a PM.

Would anyone have a rear cross member? I don't seem to be able to find one. I'm thinking I could make one if I can find the steel to do it with. But haven't ran across a place that sells 2 3/4" channel. There is a steel store here in Dayton but they want me to buy way more than I need.

Chevynut, I tried to send you a pm back but not sure I did it right, let me know if you got it or not. I'd be glad to send you the brackets you need.

Danny, I didn't get a PM from you in reply to mine. I do have a good rear crossmember for a 2-piece frame. I had mentioned it in your other thread. It's the kind that's riveted on, but it could be welded. PM me again.

Hey Danny, I sent you a PM a while ago and never heard back. Did you check out the body mount brackets?

Hey Danny, still haven't heard from you about the brackets and rear crossmember. If you're reading, please PM me. Thanks!

Sounds like your having fun :) I hear you with the bad luck. When I lifted my body off the frame I used an engine hoist on one end and a come along on the other. It all was going well until I failed to lock the last tooth on the ratchet strap with all the weight of the back end on it and caught the handle with my forehead. Damn near knocked me out and left one hell of an egg on my head lol

Correction failed to lock the come along not ratchet strap :/
