I have seen some padded dashes for sale on eBay and Eckler's for 55-56's and notice they come with the end caps. I have searched for the end caps alone (Eckler's, Danchuk and others), and all I can find is the 57 caps for a non-padded dash. Does anyone know where a guy can buy just the 55-56 end caps? I see original ones selling for stupid prices, but I don't care about originality, just a quality part. Seems like an easy part to reproduce.

Here's some repops for a 57 NON-PADDED dash. Apparently all 57s have these.

I got ahold of Muttonhollow and asked if they could get the end caps for their 55-56 padded dash separately...I was told they only come with the padded dash. That seems weird to me, but I have found Muttonhollow to be much less than helpful in the past.

I'm wondering if the 57 padded dash repops would work on a 56.

These are supposed to be originals on a 56....they don't look anything like the ones in the pic above, which I found on eBay.

My 56 HT has OEM padded dash and end caps look like Serria Gold examples.

I'd think they wouldn't be too hard to make using a hammerform technique. You might have to weld the corners (or somewhere).

I agree Rick, but at $15 for the 57 parts it's hardly worth it. :) I wonder if the 57 caps could be modified to work. Might have to get Madmooks to make some out of stainless. ;)

Madmook's stainless ones, should he offer them, will be far more than $15!

Hold our for an inexpensive solution. But building them with a hammerform won't be all that much labor.

A hammerform is where you build a tool that you can form sheetmetal over. In this case you'd build a male blank that's the dimensions of the inside of the part. That part could be wood, aluminum, steel, etc. Typically you'd put a trimmed piece of sheet metal over that, and clamp a plate over the sheetmetal. You might have a pair of dowel pins through all 3 parts so they won't slide. With the sheetmetal sandwiched between the two pieces and clamped in a vise or to a table, you use a hammer to bend the edges to the shape of the blank die.

The tricky part on this particular part is the two sharp corners. You might have trouble hammering those corners down in one piece. (Not to say it's impossible.) So maybe you remove some material there before hammering, then weld the joint afterward.
