anyone had this problem with a borg warner t56 trans fitted few years ago using a wier hot rods bell housing to a 350 small block with a isky 280 mega cam box sounds real bad at idle box was new when fitted , removed and striped down trans and found nothing wrong rebuilt with new bearings fitted new mcloud clutch ,trans is great to drive and shifts perfect , problem is at idle but as soon as you put pressure on clutch pedal noise goes away ,Any thoughts on what fluid to use could it be the cam lumpy lumpy highlighting any backlash in the gears

as soon as you put pressure on clutch pedal noise goes away ,

Are you sure it's the transmission? Sounds like it could be your throwout bearing or your clutch. Are you using a hydraulic throwout bearing?

hydraulic throw out bearing and new clutch

When you say "as soon as you put pressure on the clutch it goes away" does that mean the clutch is disengaged? Or is it just slight pressure on the pedal? Is it only doing it in neutral at idle? Some of these new transmissions do make noise at idle when in neutral, and it's normal. There's some rattling in the gears. What lube are you using?

Sounds like it's the throwout bearing - and I doubt there's an easy fix, except for one. Don't idle in neutral - instead, leave it in gear and push the pedal in, or just shut the engine off.

Inside the transmission, it could be the synchronizer forks rattling in the synchro sliders. I understand that those wore a lot in earlier versions of the T56, and they changed the material/design. But that wouldn't be affected by the clutch pedal.

As Rick said the shifting forks pads on some older models were plastic. When your gearbox was striped down if the pads were worn they should have been replaced with new bronze pads.
In the trouble shooting section of my T56 manual it says there can be noise coming from the transmission if the fluid is low.

Why do you ask about "what type of fluid"???
There is only one type of fluid recommended by Tremec

And that fluid would be Dexron ATF.
