Well, we all know the saying. Here's my thought. Just do it. I know, that's an infringement on NIKE but who cares - sue me. I can't recall ever having seen this approach however, I thinks it's novel.

Good style!

How did you make your bezels?

Kswartz
06-25-2015, 04:45 PM
Thanks for the comments,
The Bezels are just cast aluminum, came up with a sand mix to get a smooth surface using powdered glass.
Finish machined on the back and bottom on mill. Drilled and tapped 4 places to hold speaker grill material in place on the back.

You did a great job on the castings.

What is the detail at the center near the window going to be? Turn signal/brake lights?

Yes Rick the rear protrusions are for the auxiliary turn and break lights. It's the ignition and wiper switch portion of the old dash flipped over.
Thank you for the kind comments, very cool.
Wish it was simple to find speakers to fit. Only my second shaping project so I've a long way to go to get better results.

Hey Kevin, I think what you're doing is really cool. Love the bezels you made and they're a lot nicer than the ball-milled billet. It's that kind of stuff that makes the car stand out from the others.

Very nice. I wonder what it would look like with headrests in the recess.

Thank all you guys for the great comments, appreciated. Laszio thank you,big fan of your chassis work wish I could update sooner than later. OLKY55 nice idea and probably safer with rear passengers, I get rear ended, you would hit your head on the brow shape. destined for my daily work driver though so not many passengers. Perhaps i should carry a couple of pillows 😀
Spent hours trying to research speakers that will work so I can weld in the mounts before getting ready for paint. Going up to the car audio shop tomorrow shopping. And tack in my mounting bolts
Minor update.

Could you mount the speakers at a 45 degree angle and close the curve in to your opening, then insulate it?

Morning, yea Lee I tried that with one pair of 3" Bose I have but the magnet then is hitting. Couldn't get out of the shop early yesterday so I'm going to the sterioshop this morning.
Nick thanks for that one, let's just see how much a vw electric heater is. but I like the lights position as is .

Thanks guys..

Thank you guys for the positive feed back. Cleaned up th defroster vent, should finish up nice. holding off for final sanding and polishing till I get it drilled and tapped. I'm thinking 4 4/40 screws should hold it. get back to the metal work and ducting.

Very nice work Kevin,I like the two lights idea.not sure how much stereo you want but have you thought about using 6 inch splits for speakers, mount the 6 inch mid down in the rear foot well and the tweeter on a pod mounted off the rear pillar down low against the parcel shelf, you might even be able to modify one of those "A" pillar gauge pods that alot of guys use now and mount that to the rear pillar to hide the speaker, and put a sub box in the trunk.I think it will spoil the nice clean look you have acheived if you place speakers on that shelf.(less is more) lmho.Anyway once again, very nice work.
Regards Andrew.

Been forever since I updated this but finally had some time get back to work on my car.
Big apology to rustay 56, for not responding. Great ideas. Looks like ill vaccuform the rear duct work. And incorporate the speakers. That way I can hide them http://www.trifivechevys.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6196&stc=1
