My project #II low budget ls swap has started. In the next few weeks an engine & transmission test fit will occur. At that time the rear transmission mount will be installed and I am thinking ahead about a drive shaft.
Local Pick & Pull has drive shafts for $24.00 and I want an aluminum shaft with the 27 splines for the 4L60E.

The last drive shaft I had made for project #1 was $250 and I started only with the front yoke to fit the T56.

I want something long enough I can take to local drive shaft shop and have them cut the drive shaft and install yoke to fit stock 57 rear end.
Some guys have used driveshafts from a Tahoe. But most Tahoe's came with a V6 and I am curious if they are strong enough for the 5.3.
I don't know if GM made several different drive shafts or not. Seems like the 4x4 were steel shafts.
I am aware to measure drive line when near normal body weight is on frame. But,
Does anyone have recommendations of vehicles to be a good donor?

Approximately what length do you need? I wouldn't worry about the yoke since you can change that out easily.

Not sure what you have now but 4l60 is same as a th350 you could just have your stock shaft shorten unless you just want al aly.

Sounds like you're wanting an aluminum driveshaft as a steel one should be easy to find, and you could even use a stock tri5 one. I wouldn't worry about the thickness of the driveshaft tube. C4 aluminum halfshafts are only around .080" thick I'm told, and they hold up well. They are 3 1/2" OD.

I bought my driveshaft new from Denny's with 1350's on both ends and it was e$$pensive. Not sure I'd do that again if you can buy them for $24. ;)

The yoke is wrong but later Ford Crown Junks have a decent Alum shaft. I used to have an early steel one shortened one in my 55
