This has to be one of the best looking nomads I've seen stance wise and drivable . It claims to have an AM chassis. How much does the AM chassis drop the front suspension? Cnut claims 3 inches is doable on his C4 setup. The recent tread about suspension geometry indicated I'm 2.5 inches lower than stock with the bolt on parts I have. This car looks much lower?

Here's my Nomad at about ride height...the front end MIGHT be 1/2" low in these pics. It's a 3" suspension drop in front as designed, plus 1" tire drop. About a 2" suspension drop in the rear. Mine sits about 3 3/4"- 4" off the ground measured at the frame right at the front of the door. A 55 has a taller fenderwell in front, and a lower one in the rear.

That guy needs to lose those ugly amber parking lights, imo. ;)

I just had my fenders on to check some clearances and sitting on the ground. I am 3 3/4" off the ground in front at the same point as C-Nut. The back will probably be an inch higher than it is in these pictures.

Interesting. How much taller is the 55 front opening compared to 56? I measure 5 3/8 at the same point and I have 26 inch dia tire on front. So if I am truly 2.5 below stock you guys are 3.5 to 3.75 below stock. I'm going to have to run drop spindles and drop springs to get in the weeds with you guys lol.

I don't know how much taller the 55 fenderwell opening is because the online sheet showing 55 fender dimensions is too small and unreadable. A guy could scale off of it to get the dimensions.

When I designed my C4 suspension I was shooting for a 3" drop and I believe that's what I got. I used the GM frame drawing and measurements I took off of a C4 front end to design it.

If you look at the frame drawing, you will see that the lower balljoint is 3.72" above the datum and the bottom of the frame is 1/2" above the datum. So the lower balljoint is 3.33" above the bottom of the frame. The spindle is 2 13/16" above the balljoint (per a prior discussion), or 6.033" above the bottom of the frame assuming the frame is level. The rolling diameter of a stock tire is 13.36" per a prior thread.

So using those dimensions the stock frame to ground measurement should be about 7.327" at ride height. By that calculation, your car is dropped a total of 1.952" and mine is dropped a total of 3.577" (at 3 3/4" from the ground) including tire drop. That again assumes the frames are level. However, my car has a slight rake to the frame so it's dropped a little more than that in front, closer to 4". That point on the frame is at about 1/4 of the wheelbase.

By the way, the stock frame also has a slight rake to it at ride height. The top of the rear frame hump is 15.32" above the bottom of the frame. The frame is 3.5" tall there so the bottom of the hump is 11.82" above the bottom of the frame. The top of the 3" axle tube is 5.725" below the frame hump, putting the center of the axle 4.59" above the bottom of the frame. That's 1.44" lower in the frame compared to the front spindle.

I have about a 2" drop in the rear and 3" drop in front. So I should have about a 2.44" rake and dividing that by 4 (1/4 of the wheelbase) I get 0.61". So my total front drop is 4.187" (including tire drop) which is close to the 4" I predicted. If the frame was 4" above the ground it would be a total of 3.875" drop.

Ok sense I started this thread I have the right to high jack it lol. I have been on the fence about going with staggered size wheels or keeping them all the same size as the first car I posted above the 56. This was and has been my initial idea for my nomad. Kind of like to be able to rotate tires etc I'm building it with the intentions to drive it regularly. However the 55 nomad because of it's large rear opening demands some beef that's why I am still on fence.
exhibit A below lol. I have committed to a wheel I'm going with the ones I have shown in my build same as is on my cutlass the rev 100 an AR licensed knock off. The custom caps have already been order. I am going to go with 9 inch 17/255/50 (tel:17/255/50) on all 4 or switch to 18 265/50 (tel:18 265/50) on back. The picture below has 255/45/17 on all 4 which are to short IMHO. A 27 inch tall tire seems to be the best height to fill up the wells with out becoming to big in front. Hard to get to big in back in my case lol.

What wheel style and size do you plan to run just curious? Nut I will note I was way off base on the C4 excludes old school look lol. The mad with the cragars Mike posted on FB blows that thought out of the water lol.

Rocky, in my pics above my Nomad has 245/45-17 tires in front on 8.5" wheels and 295/35-18 tires in the rear on 10.5" wheels. The rear tires are wider than they look in the pics...here's one from the rear. ;)

6470

When the car is finished I'll probably drive it a little then choose some other custom wheels, probably all 18s. I'll either go with 8 o 9" front wheels with 245 or 255 tires, depending on what it looks like will work after trying the 245s. In the rear I will probably go with an 11" wheel with maybe 315s or even wider up to 345s which will fit if I can get them on ;). Again, that depends on my experience with how the 295s work out.
