Help us out a little bit Raymond... What do you have? 1955 SWB Stepside?? or ? and you want to install a 'fleetside' type of bed? or are you thinking of a platform type of bed?

The only 'fleetside' bed sides for '55 - 57 Chevys were the Cameo, which was only an 'appearance' fleetside look, and didn't change the inside dimensions of the stepside bed. You said you tried a '58 bed? Was that a fleetside ? or was it '59 when they came out with the steel fleetside?

Currently it's a 55 short step side my plan was to install a short wide "fleet side " bed , the wide bed was about 4 inches wider than the cab ? , also found out it's on a 67-72 frame so will need to do some Fab work on that also

So questions is a 58 cab the same width as a 57 ?

Why don't you find a bed you like and modify it to fit your truck? :)

I am really confused the stepside beds are the same 55-59. Repair cab corners are same 55-59.

These are pics of my 59 shortbed fleetside. 58 and 59 are same dimensions.
The bed is not much wider than the cab...about the same overall.

Do you need me to measure the width of the bed (at its widest point?)

Ramond, do you possibly have a '55 first series pickup. If so the '58 Fleetside bed won't fit the cab contours.

I think Tobasco has discovered the problem.... waiting to hear from Raymond... :)

I think we have an answer, therefore OP needs a 47-54 bed.

Amazing! We've all figured it out and the original poster has vanished...

And there's no "fleetside" or "wide bed" for a 47-54/early 55. But you could make one using quarters from a panel or suburban. Lot of work, but it would be very cool.

As I recall, they made a pickup from a panel truck on "Bitchin' Rides". High end/lot of work/but very nice.

Yep, that 'fleetside' they *made* on bitchin rides was very cool.. the nicest Chevy truck of that era that I've ever seen (by far)... but a fella named John Davis (from Mississippi) once brought an 'early '55' to our local car show that he had made into an 'extended cab pickup'.. that one was extremely nice as well... :)

THIS is a "fleetside"? I thought a fleetside didn't have any rear fenders.

That's a Suburban with the roof cut off.

That's a Suburban with the roof cut off.

I know that, but the other guys called it a "fleetside". The pic I posted is the one from Bitchin' Rides they're referring to.

I love that blue truck it reminds me of my Dads 56. Wish we would have kept it, hated the 64 he bought to replace it.
