Hi Bob,

I wish to thank you for the wonderful job you are doing!

I was in the market for a '55 Belair - and the car had to be darn near
perfect/correct.

I found my car on your site back in January - and I just got back from San
Francisco to purchase and "pick'er up"!

What a great way to find a great car - from another great enthusiast!

I hope others are as fortunate as I.

Best regards,

HI BOB; HERE IN AUSTRALIA GAS PRICES ARE ON THE RISE, JUST LIKE EVERYWHERE
ELSE I GUESS, APART FROM THE GOVERNMENTS COLLECTING MORE TAX WITH EVERY
GALLON SOLD, MAKES ONE WONDER WHY OIL COMPANIES IN THE WESTERN WORLD ARE
DISCOVERING MORE OIL , BUT CAPPING THE WELLS ???

WHY MY GUESS IS THEY ARE KEEPING IT FOR FUTURE SALES AT A HIGHER MARGIN &
MORE PROFIT IN THE FUTURE. THE ARABS MIGHT BE TRYING TO SQUEEZE US ALL
AGAIN, .........

BUT.... HAS ANYONE CHECKED THE PRICE OF A QUART OF OIL AT THE GAS STATION
OR
SUPERMARKET LATTERLY ???? FUNNY THING THIS OIL IS PROCESSED, REFINED ETC
ANYONE SEEN IT TAKE A HIKE ALSO, WHO IS CONNING WHO ???

JUST AS A MATTER OF INTEREST ON THE EAST COAST HERE IN AUSTRALIA THE
AVERAGE
PRICE OF REGULAR UNLEADED IS TODAY 90 cents AUSSIE per Litre

ONE AUSSIE DOLLAR BUYS 61 Cents U.S. Currency today 13 March 00, So don't
feel too bad, you guys still have the cheapest gas around.

Last September I drove up PCH the old cost highway y towards San Fransisco
& gas was selling at U.S. $2.60 a Gallon, WONDER WHAT IT WILL COST NEXT

A message to Roy, R Nagel regarding the current petrol price situation.
Prices in Sydney, Australia are currently rocketing towards the $1.00/
litre
mark, from prices in the mid 70's only a few months ago. I agree with your
comments, but have to say that you are nowhere near the mark if you think
of
Australia as a less-developed country. When was the last time a country
like
Etheopia hosted the Olympics?
Come over and like most people, you'll be surprised when you don't see
kangaroos and koalas in the main street of Sydney. We are actually world
leaders in many forms of technology too you know!

Great list. Your list members really know their cars and 50s music. Here
is a very hard question about
50s music. It was common in the 50s to have more than one person have the
same song out at the same time. Nick Todd and Danny and The Juniors both
had a recording of "At the Hop" out at the same time. Nick Todd was never
heard from again after that song. However Nick Todd's brother was one of
the most popular singers of the 50s and many of his records reached number
1 on the charts. What was Nick Todd's brother's name?

Editor's note. That must have been one musical family. Nick Todd's
brother had many rock and roll number 1 hits. His brother's father in law
had many number 1 hits and his niece had a number one hit called "You light
up my life"

Warren,
I read somewhere that in the 1957 model year, all the Chevrolet models
had
wheel rims painted to match the body color. On 2-tone models, the wheels
were painted the color of the lower body. Later in the '57 model year,
chevrolet painted the wheel rims Argent Silver on the BelAirs, but I'm not
sure if they did the same for the 150s and 210s. But definitely later
model
'57 Chevy BelAirs came with Argent Silver from the factory.

To Rich in Baltimore,
I have a question and an answer for you. First the question regarding
your disc brake conversion: Did you use your original 57 chevy rims with
the nibs that hold the hubcaps on? I was under the impression if you
wanted to use 14" rims they had to be from a later model gm car with
disc brakes like early 80's Monte Carlo, and then weld he nibs on. As
for the answer I always go to my trivial (I mean trivia expert Mario.)
The Nestle's dog was Farfo! Every time we go to Carlisle and pass the
Nestle's plant on Route 78 in Pennsylvania he sings me that famous
jingle: N E S T L E S, Nestle's make the very best Chhoockllate. Well I
guess that gives his age away, but I difinitely don"t remember it. I
won't tell you my age, only that I am as old as my 57 Chevy, and she is
all original and in great shape! Donna

For those restoring a tri-5 Nomad you may want to check eBay #279494925.
It appears to have all the tailgate bars, including the center one (but it
seems to lack the handle and lock mechanism). Condition doesn't look mint,
but beginning price is around $25, FOR THE SET. In fact, I think I count 9
bars when only 7 are needed (?).

Danchuk has repros. in its catalog. Part #10150, is a set and goes for
$499.95! The set has 7 bars, all right, and the handle, as well. Don't
see the lock mechanism. Handle alone is Danchuk part #10151, for $39.95.

Check all references and other details before bidding and good luck!

To: BOB FORD, BOB_FORD
From: INTERNET:cdmhenry@earthlink.net, INTERNET:cdmhenry@earthlink.net

Bob,
In response to Rich of Baltimore post regarding Gasohol. In the
early 70's my father was director of the state commission that promoted
alcohol as an additive to fuel. As a result, the topic came up
frequently. The sales pitch was that a blend of fuel containing 10%
alcohol could potentially reduce the consumption of gasoline by 10%.
Corn is the grain which yields the highest volume of alcohol per
dollar. It was shown that the production of corn required more fuel to
produce than it could save. The processing of seed, planting,
fertilizing, tilling, harvesting & transportation requires a significant
amount of fuel. The price/cost of gasoline is much less than the
price/cost of alcohol. Currently, the price of technical grade ethanol
is $4.50/gal. in 5 gallon containers & $3.80/gal. in 50 gallon drums &
$3.10/gal in tanker truck quantities. Additionally, alcohol is
hydrophilic & fuel blends containing alcohol must be handled carefully
to avoid the adsorption of water into the fuel & the resultant loss of
performance.
Gasohol is not the answer to reduce overall consumption of gasoline.
It is, however, an acceptable means to increase the volatility of
petroleum fuels such that "regular" can perform as well as "premium"
with the addition of alcohol. So... unless "premium" grade fuels are not
produced and "premium" is what you must use, then gasohol is an
alternative.
A different approach to justifying alcohol as fuel is the lack of
fuel tax on alcohol. A gallon of gasohol will have 10% less fuel tax on
it!
It looks like the best approach to reducing consumption of imported
fuel is to switch to LNG or propane to power your vehicle. The fuel is
much less expensive (per mile) and domestic supplies of LNG are very
very good.
Funny side note... last year our neighbor ran out of gas before
finishing the last few laps while mowing his lawn. He didn't want to go
to the trouble of running to the gas station to get another gallon.
So... he raided a bottle of gin from his bar, poured it in the mower &
finished mowing without problem. Kind of makes you wonder about gin.

would be interested in Okay used car signs, old neon chevrolet signs, or

that have Gmc trucks and trailors 24 or 36 inch in size. I might also be
