Hi!
My name is Danny Schnell. I'm from a small town in Southern Indiana. I

recently completed a 3050 mile coast to coast charity bicycle ride. In
conjunction with this trip, I will be giving away some great prizes this
summer. 1st. prize is a 1955 Chevy Bel Air, a true American Classic! 2nd.
prize is a 1947 Dodge. Also I will be giving away 38 one week stays at an
oceanfront hotel at Daytona Beach, FL.. The charities involved include
Ronald McDonald House of Topeka,KS and the local volunteer fire department
in
the town I live.
This is a great opportunity to win some nice prizes or perhaps make
some
extra money and be eligible to win the prizes as well. Please check out my
website for all the details. If you belong to a club or organization, this
could be a good fund raiser for you, while still helping my charities. I
would
greatly appreciate if you would check out my website at

Thank-you very much!

Bob and List Members:

I have been following with great interest the ongoing
discussion regarding CCI and Bow-Tie's recognition of
this list. My feelings are: WHO NEEDS 'EM! I've
been a member of CCI for 11 years and witnessed the
"degeneration" of the "club" (which it is not,
anymore). I still own my "family heirloom" 64 SS, but
that's not what I want to see in CCW. Their direction
has changed too much for me.

I've had a bad habit of subscribing to more motorhead
publications than I can possibly read each month.
I've been getting more out of this list than anything
else. I've got service manuals, and when the need for
parts or accessories arises, if it isn't in Hemmings,
it probably doesn't exist. Therefore, I have decided
to vote CCI off of my island. I've been receiving
renewal notifications for my October expiration for
the past six months, and I smile and throw them in the
trash. If I feel the need to look at pictures of some
really neat Tri-Fives, I've still got 11 years worth
of mags to peruse.

Thanks Bob and List Members for helping me to move on!

Bob and list members.

Suppose someone invented a way for the thousands of us TriFive guys and
gals to communicate with each other on a daily basis AT NO COST. You would
think that would be BIG NEWS in all TriFive publications. Wouldn't this
ability to communicate make the ownership of TriFives much more desirable
that other makes and years without this communications capability?

Come on BOW TIE and CCI. Get your head out of the sand. Recognition of
Bob and this list can only increase your business. If their are any BOW
TIE or CCI officers on this list, please can we hear from you.

We will let CCI and all who attend our show know that your list exists.
Thank you again for enriching our hobby. We personally have two chevy's: a

Bob,
I agree with most of the other members. CCI is not what it used to be. I
have been a member since 1979 and have seen it go down hill ever since Doug

Moorehead sold it. He ran it more like a club. I remember when they had a
couple of homes that they rented out to members visiting Florida. I went
down
there in 1988 and rented the house for 4 days. It was a very nice home with

central a/c, 5 bedroms, large master suite, tv, vcr, etc. It was about 20
minutes from Disney and only cost $35 a night!!! I was very happy with it.
I
also visited CCI and met Doug. He was very friendly and spent a lot of time

with my family and I. They gave us a full tour of the place and offered us
discount coupons for Disney and other places. We felt very welcomed there.
Things like that made me feel like I belonged to a club. Now it's just a
business. In fact, the I remember the new owners knocked the house thing
and
said it had nothing to do with Classic Chevys. This is true, but it did
have
something to do with the benefits of belonging to a club. CCI today does
not
offer any benefits to there "members". They show "member prices" in there
catalogs, but these prices are no cheaper, and sometimes more than most
vendors. So, what do they offer us as members? Tech articles? We can get
that
here, from your list. And it's free! That's probably why they don't
acknowledge your list.Besides, I have called their tech line and the person

who talked to did not seem very knowledgable.Needless to say, I did not
take
his advice. The only reason I continue to "subscribe" to CCI is the
magazine, to see other member's cars. And $30 for a magazine subscription
is
a bit much. And now, with all the other cars on there, I am really
considering ending my "membership". I can get the same thing from 'Super
Chevy'. , and it's half the price.
As allways, thanks Bob for doing such a great job!!! -Warren

Hi Bob and all you Tri-5ers,
Having owned many older cars, including my current '55 2 door 210, I
have a hard time believing some of the things that go on in our hobby.
I'm referring to the growing controversy about CCI. Maybe that's why
there were less than 300 cars at the big show in MD a couple of weeks
ago. I know, at that show, I heard nothing but positive things about
this list, as I mentioned before.
I don't care what kind of old car you have, we all have to stick
together. If we don't, the EPA will have us legislated out of existence.
Have any of you Tri-5ers been to a multi-make show and seen a pristine
Model A Ford and not appreciated it? Or an old Packard? Everyone who's
into this hobby, regardless of the make of their car, has to work
together to keep ALL vintage cars on the road. C'mon, folks. If your
organization is so narrow minded that they can't see anything but their
profit, it's time to change affiliations.
Bob has done all Tri-5ers a HUGE service with this list. I'd rather
be a member of this list than have the hassle of belonging to some of
these other groups of so-called "promoters of the hobby" who only see
profit as their motive for being involved.
I'll get off my soap box with another big "Thank You" to Mr. Ford.

Good morning Bob,

Thank you for replying to my request so quickly. Its always great turning
up
to work in the morning and when I turn the computer on--there it is--- The
Bob Ford List. Its like a new lease on life. The day doesn't look so bad.

Bob, in the 1950's was it law that you had to run a front and rear licence
plate on your cars or just the rear plate???. I would love to try and pick
up a 1957 Original Licence plate but I wasn't sure if I could only get the
one. In Australia we have had to always run both.
Also I had come across a licence plate 1953 PENNA. Where in the States
does this one come from????

Many thanks once again to all those out in Bob Ford World.
PETER HALL.

Editor's note. Whether you needed one licence plate of 2 depended on the
state you lived in. Some required 2 and some only 1. What state would you
like a 57 license plate from. Let me know and I will try and find you one.

Dear Bob,

Thanks for posting my e-mail. Would love to step up to a Tri-Five Chevy.
But
the wife says: "one car at a time!"

As to the never ending Beach Boys controversy: co-founding members, Alan
Jardine and Mike Love, are into a 'pissing match' of sorts. Both claim the
right to refer to themselves as "The Beach Boys."

So, there are TWO Beach Boy acts on the road: Mike Love and Bruce Johnston,

who has been a member of the group since '65, have one group, and Alan
Jardine, along with sons Matt and Adam, Brian Wilson's two daughters,
Carnie
and Wendy, and Billy Hinsche, formerly of the '60s teen group, 'Dino, Desi
and Billy.' BOTH groups have additional backup musicians.

I've seen Jardine and Company last year in Atlanta, have not caught Mike
and
Company. Having been a close personal friend--as well as a former
manager--of
the band for over thirty-seven years, I have a hard time understanding
their
feud. It apparently happened shortly after the untimely and tragic death of

original member Carl Wilson, who was unquestionably, the most
compassionate,
talented, a level headed member of the group. Without a "Wilson" on stage
(Brian has not worked with the group regularly for thirty-five years and
Dennis died on December 28, 1983), I'm not sure there really is a "Beach
Boys" any more.

As to the recent ABC TV's recent two part TV-Movie, no, I've not seen it. I

taped it, but have not watched it. Can't bring myself to seeing a
sensationalized version of "America's Band." Overall, what I've heard on
the
street, and from BB 'diehards,' is that it was too weighted in favor of
Mike
Love, who was the only member of the band who was a 'consultant' on the
film.
Hey, I'd rather remember the 'glory years.'

For you real Beach Boy fanatics--and others who would like to see one of
the
most talented musical minds of the past century--Beach Boy cofounder,
producer and song writer, Brian Wilson, is touring the US this summer doing

many dates as part of a "Pet Sounds" Symphonic tour. That album, considered

America's top album of the rock era, and tied with the classic Sgt. Pepper
as
one of the top albums of all-time, contained "God Only Knows," "Sloop John
B," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," and "Caroline No." Don't miss this once in a
lifetime experience if the tour comes to your city.

Thanks so much for the lists of Internet 'classic car' sites, Bob. Will try

to check them out. Anyone out there had any experiences--good or bad--with
any of the sites?

Thanks for your great list, Bob. Have a great week!

Bob,

My 2 cents on this "club" verses the other older business like Chevy
Clubs. In the late '70's when there was not a lot of info or parts around
to restore the 1955-1956-1957 Chevy's a need arose for people to get
together and help each other and so started CCI. Parts and information to
help the other guy that had a similar interest was the main reason to for
that Club (defined as an association of people for a common objective). It
was found that a method was needed to present info and to locate parts, so
a magazine (the best method at the time) was started which required a small
fee to those who needed it.
Now I see that there still is a need for people to help each other in
the manner and spirit that caused the creation on CCi and similar clubs.
That is where Bob's list comes in, we help each other in the same spirit
that necessitated the creation of CCI. Instead of a magazine we have the
internet, in black and white just like CCI's first issues.
Also, after reading some of the first year CCI magazines I see that
those first members did NOT have a lot of money to spend and needed to keep
it as inexpensive as we do now. I'm not proposing that CCI or Bow Tie are
not necessary, I'm a member of both. But as has been mentioned by other
list members the business clubs are now in business even though they like
to call themselves clubs. I believe they are threatened by this list and
the internet as now there are other ways to get the information we need and
by not being dependant on them it threatens their profits. Its too bad
that they did not see this list and the internet as a way to help the
hobby and Chevy owners and support it, that is what they would have done
before the Business came before the Club.

Have you seen CCI and BOW TIE's web sites? They just copy what they
have been doing for years, keep up with business.

I hope that somebody from CCI or BOW TIE CHEVY will contact Bob and ask
if they could do an article about this list and how much it means to a lot
of Chevy owners. At the very least they could get a good Chevy story out of
it.

Anyone out there have a personal opinion on this? I have some bumper 'ends'

(IM not even sure what they are called -) that were damaged in an accident-

not 100% show quality but would work well for a daily driver as the chrome
is
still shiny-just a bit damaged.

I can get $35 per core from CCI if I 'return' them -I think it would be
better to sell them outright to someone who needs them.

Again they are certainly NOT perfect-scratched a bit but rechroming may be
a
cheaper option for someone who doesn't have a show car? IM not sure...

THOUGHTS? By the way, Hubby doesn't know IM sending this yet but since he

It's my understanding that cars and wagons (including the Nomad) have
the same fenderwell opening on both the '56's and the '57's. The '55
Nomad has a different fender well opening than the other '55's. The
'56 and '57 fender well openings are different from each other. I had
a friend that built a great looking '57 2-dr post and added a '56
opening to his '57 so more of the tire showed. I like my cars low, he
likes his high. The difference between the '56 and '57 is very subtle
but the '57 is lower. Until he did this to his car, I would have said
they were the same.
