What's Prettier Than Freckles?

An elderly woman and her little grandson, whose face was sprinkled with
bright freckles, spent the day at the zoo. Lots of children were waiting in

line to get their cheeks painted by a local artist who was decorating them
with tiger paws.

"You've got so many freckles, there's no place to paint!" a girl in the
line
said to the little fella.

Embarrassed, the little boy dropped his head. His grandmother knelt down
next to him. "I love your freckles. When I was a little girl I always
wanted
freckles," she said, while tracing her finger across the child's cheek.
"Freckles are beautiful."

The boy looked up, "Really?"

"Of course," said the grandmother. "Why just name me one thing that's
prettier than freckles."

The little boy thought for a moment, peered intensely into his grandma's
face, and softly whispered, Wrinkles."

Bob,
I like Tony's idea about meeting in Carlisle, Pa. This is a good central
location for us Easterners. And, of course, Carlisle always puts on great
shows. I think what we should do is start making a list of how many people
can make it and send it to Tony at Chevytalk.com. Or maybe ask anyone who
wants to attend to e-mail him. Like he said, if we get enough people, we
can
have our own sub-event. What do you think?

BOB,

Loving classic cars an affair of the heart and
not just for guys

Women are active members of area clubs

November 05, 2000

By Tatiana Butko
Staff Writer

DUARTE, Calif. - If Milinda Avila Coykendall has a bad day, she gets into
her butternut yellow '69 Chevelle SS396 and goes for a drive.
But she often sees people do double-takes at seeing a woman driving
the vintage automobile.
"They will come up and ask to talk to my husband," Coykendall said.
The same thing happens when Cindy Carlson drives her crimson '56
Chevrolet 150.
The two inform curious onlookers they own the classic cars and
appreciation of a good driving machine goes beyond gender.
"I just think they're adorable," Coykendall said. "I like the
horsepower, I like the looks, I like the whistles. Most of these old
cars have more horsepower than the new ones."
Coykendall has been a member of the Forever Classic Chevy Car
Club of Upland since January and Carlson has been a member of The
Midnighters Custom Southern Cal club, based in Downey, for a year.
"(Coykendall) definitely knows her car," said Forever Classic
President Dale Wyrick. "She can hold a conversation with the best of
us when it comes to the cars and will not hesitate to do so."
Coykendall is almost the Chevelle's original owner she has had the
automobile for 31 years. Her father gave her the car as a gift when
she graduated from Covina, Calif. High School.
The Chevelle was bought new by her 21-year-old cousin, who was
then drafted, Coykendall recalled. Her father bought it from her
cousin, but didn't say anything when he first brought the Chevelle
home. He took the family for a ride in it on a Saturday. On Sunday,
Coykendall asked for the keys to the family's Impala to drive to
church and was surprised when her father gave her the keys to the
Chevelle.
"My father tossed the keys to me and said, 'Happy graduation! It's
yours,' " Coykendall said. "I didn't remember a word of the church
service."
Carlson has had her vintage Chevy for four years and bought the car
after shopping around, she said. The auto was in good condition,
except the paint had oxidized from red to pink. Her husband
polished it back to its original crimson.
The couple also has a '31 Ford two-door they can drive on the street
as well as display in shows, Carlson said.
"That's why we got them, to enjoy, not just sit in the garage,"
Carlson said. "The '56 is my everyday car (except when it rains). I
have no fear about it there are too many people up here who
appreciate and own old cars."
Midnighters club President Carl Conklin described Carlson as an
outstanding car buff.
"I commend Cindy for her involvement (with the club)," Conklin
said. "She goes for it and gets things done. I'm proud of her."

For those of you who like the trucks, I found an R/C Cameo truck in the

discount outlet store for K & B's regular mall stores, they had about 15
yellow cream-colored Cameo trucks for sale at $9.99. Nice looking, had the
outside sunvisor option , but some incorrect details like 3100 on the
fenders, and no side trim, but still a nice , LARGE toy truck. Has the
cable
remote, not radio, white translucent windows so you can't see into the cab
itself, but still a rather nicely detailed truck for the size ( about 16
inches long by 6 inches high ). They're made by Joystar Int'l, a Hong Kong
company. The box says Rock 'N Roadster, and has a picture of both the '57
Chevy hardtop and a Cameo, so I assume they have both models. It's a white
and red box if you're looking for it. good luck, I also picked up some of
the
'55 Cameo Johnny Lightning Post Office series of 1/64th scale trucks in
gold
color for $2 each. Not a bad TF ( Task Force ) truck night! Well, that's
all
for this lurker, catch ya later!

As you may have heard, Harold LeMay passed away last Saturday.
(In case you didn't know Harold had the largest collection of cars in
the world - over 2500 cars- and has had yearly "free open house" for
years.)

We're trying to get together a LARGE group of people to bring their cars
to the church parking lot to take part in the procession to the burial site
this Saturday.
The Service is at the Covenent Celebration Church at 1819 East 72nd in
Tacoma, WA.
The procession will leave the church at 2 PM, head West to Pacific Ave,
South to 176th, East a few blocks to Fir Lane Chapel and Cemetary on the
right.

I'd appreciate any efforts to help us pull this off.

Hey Bob--

You do a great job in keeping this Chevy List up.

I just want to tell everyone that if you wanna save a few bucks in flat
glass resto projects, you can go down to your local glass shop and buy
laminated glass and a glass cutter. Glass shops routinely throw away
scraps
that are larger than standard tri-five window sizes. Trace the original
pattern from old glass on the new pane with a wax marker. Using a glass
cutter, follow the pattern carefully. Press firmly. Begin to "rock" the
panes back and forth. You'll see "shiners" form when the glass separates.

Turn the glass over and trace the pattern again (laminated safety glass
consists of a clear rubber center sandwiched between two sheets of thinner
glass). Begin to "rock" the panes back and forth again. At this point,
both panes should be cut and the only thing holding them together is the
rubber center. Douse the area with a little alcohol and proceed to use a
razor blade to cut through the rubber. It's really not that difficult, but

practice on scrap glass first with straight cuts and then proceed with
curved cuts. When the glass separates, pull down and away from the cut to
avoid fracturing the bottom pane.

If you're restoring a prize-winning original showcar, this is probably not
an option, but it was good enough for my '55 2DHT.

John

My father showed me this trick.

I am in the midst of a front end rebuild (power disc brake conversion,
and
PST polygraphite bushings) on a 56 210 wagon, and thus have the entire
front
clip disassembled (inner and outer fenders and control arms removed). As
long
as I'm here, I have a few questions.

If I install a 605 power steering conversion kit, do the inner or
outer tie rods need to be changed for ones of a different length?

If I install headers and change to dual exhaust (small block
engine),
will they interfere with my brake lines to the rear of the car, or any of
the
steering mechanism?

Help..........

I know this is a goofy problem, but it's still a problem for a new guy like
me.

Our 55 wagon has stock wheels and stock Bel Air hub caps. All of the hub
caps rotate on the wheels bending the value stems. I have try to bend the
lip of the hub caps and made sure that the "bumps" on the wheel and the
small indentations on the hub cap line up. I used a rubber mallet to put
the hub caps on, and they fit nice and tight. But still the hub caps
rotates and bend the value stems. We have had to replace the value stem on
one tire already.

Now I know why the guy who sold us the car didn't have the hub caps on the
car :-)

Anyway, other than welding does anyone have any solutions to this
problem???

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, I'm very new at this.

Mahalo (thank you)
