Bob,
I would like to throw out a question to the members
regarding drivetrains. My original plan was to go with a 'crate 350' and
TH350 tranny. But, after attending the GoodGuy's show in Northern
California, it seems like the popular transmission is the 700R4. If
anyone
can give me the 'pros & cons' between the TH350 & 700r4. I'm curious as
to
the costs, a computer needed, etc. The engine would probably be not fuel
injected.
Thanks,
Mel

to the white family who has problems with there hb caps spinning to the
point of bending the valve stems
put a few dabs of clear silicone around the rim where it meets the hub cap
put the caps while the silicone is fresh
let the car sit until it hardens
this should stop the rims from spinning and still make the caps easy to pop
off it you need to

let me know how you make out

it worked for me once before i installed grager s/s rims on my car

BOB & Bowtie Buddies,

What if any are the differences between a 55 & 56 bench seat? Are the
frames
the same? If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi Dino,

Your Not alone with this problem. This happens more frequently with cars
using Radial Tires than cars using Bias Ply Tires. I've experienced the
same
problem on my 56 on one of my rear rims. I solved the problem by putting
drops of Silicone near the tabs of the rim that hold the hub cap onto the
rim.
When the silicone dries it will hold the hub cap in place nicely.
Don't get wild & add to much silicone all around the rim because your going

to want to take that hub cap off one day :o)

I recommend you use Clear Kitchen & Bathroom Silicone. It's Moisture &
Mildew resistant & seems to secure the cap the best

I hope this helps some ..... James ..... Chevy156@aol.com

Hi Bob. You continue to provide a fantastic service to all 55-7 Chevy
lovers.
I don't know how you find the time. Thanks.

I, for one, will be at the all G.M. Carlisle show next summer. Those of us
who vend there have been asking for this kind of a show for years. The
Mid-Atlantic Nomad Assn and all of the area '55 to '57 Chevy clubs will be
gathering there. It would be a great site for members of your list and also

Chevytalk to meet. Let's make it happen.

To Andy Nelson, the mid-eighties C10 pickup rear axle assemblies are a
direct
replacement for '55 to '59 pickups. Perches are in the right location and
even the e-brake works. Just redrill the axles. Good luck.

Bob- I would like to list some parts for sale-also about my finding these
parts-or I should say they found me! Sometime ago I took my 57 coupe
to
a nearby shopping plaza. I wasn't going to be in the store long so I
parked
way out in front near the main road. When I returned to my car there was a
note on my windshield something like "I've had several 57's and I am
selling
parts that I've had for many years-if interested, call etc." It seems that

this fella had just bought a new house and had parts up in his garage since

the mid-1970's. He now had them in his mother-law's garage about a half an

hour away, I met him there and bought several boxes of both used and nos
parts-he knew the current prices for repro. parts, etc. so we negotiated
what
we felt was a fair price. Among the best of the lot was a rechromed
original
3 piece rear bumper still wrapped in newspaper from 1974!
Some of the parts I would like to sell are:
1.55 tissue dispenser-original-in storage for many years-some very lite
wear-shines like new-I think $65. plus shipping is fair considering that
repros are about 60-70.
2. nos license plate lens-57 in original box- $15.
3. nos cig. lighter in box $20.(57)
4. 57 left front assec. bumper guard. show quality-done by Lemon
Grove-perfect $75
obo
Have some 56 and other 57. If there is any response to this ad I'd like to
list other parts in the near future-I don't want to use this list just for
selling parts.
Frank e-mail Dover57@aol.com Almost forgot-I can send pictures of
above listed parts.

I have for sale 2 pairs of 56 Chevy hoodbar extensions. In the one pair,
both pieces would make sweet cores for rechroming or use as is for a
driver.
In the second pair, the passenger side is nice but the driver's side is
pitted pretty bad. A rechrome shop that does potmetal would fix this. $22

for the first pair; $13 for the second pair. Shipping would be $6 for each

pair. I live in Fleetwood, PA.

To Dino with the problem of rotating hub caps. Your question isn't a
dumb one at all. This is a very common problem and I put up with it for
years before I found a very simple solution: a good tire shop can put
in a steel-shanked valve stem that will hold your caps in place. You
won't find these at your average service station or discount tire store,
but a quality tire/brake/allignment shop should have them available or
be able to order them. They are worth it!

I just picked up a digital temperature gauge from Jeg's High performance
and it works great. What's nice about it is that you can experiment and
put in various parts in your car (thermostat, etc.) and you can see how it
affects the temperature.

However you have to disconnect the original temp. gauge. But you can get
a small plumbing fixture that has a 'Y' in it where you can screw in both
gauges. Never tried this but i think it's been done before.

Bob, I think this guy did one of two things. Most likely he held the "3"
key
down just a hair too long on his keyboard & it accidentally put two 3's
down
instead of ONE, ( AND he didn't realize it), assuming he typed up
32,000, OR he just lost his marbles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Richard
