This list now has over 3000 members. As a protection for all members, in
the next few weeks I am going through the e-mail addresses and make sure I
have the name of each member. There are a few members that have been
added that have not included their name when they asked to be added.

I will be sending these few members an e-mail requesting they give me their
name. Failure to respond with their name will result in them being removed
from the list. Please note that I will protect your privacy and your
name or e-mail address will NOT be sold or given to other organizations.

However with 3000+ members and more being added, I feel it is necessary to
have the names of all members to protect everyone from people that want to
take advantage of other members.

Mr. Dave Hecker, you did the right thing by clarifying your
note regarding stupid questions etc. Is that Marc Glassoff
guy a friend of yours? He wants to save Bob's time by
eliminating elementary questions from uneducated guys
like me. Lighten up you Ca. fellows that have all of the
answers, but don't want to share that knowledge. No one
wants to turn this list into an elite forum for 'know-it-alls'.
I agree with Charlie Schneider, there is no such thing as
a stupid question. That's my two cents worth. JimJ.

Bob

Have been reading correspondence on the 'part that Chevrolet forgot'.
Could somebody explain what the rear shock support kit is and what it does?
Sorry - another stupid question.

Thanks as ever for the list.

Stephen (in London UK - where blue dots are still legal I think!)).
55 Nomad
57 Bel Air

Editor's note. On my 57 the rear shocks were bolted to the body. This
tended to cause the body to crack at the connection point. I have not
installed a shock support kit but I believe it is a solid metal bar
attached to the frame that you attach the top of the rear shocks to.
Someone please lets us know if this is correct.

Working fine. Good to be back.
Any help on my question about converting to an alternator from generator?
K Ivey

Editor's note. I made that conversion. I think most vendors have the
parts to do the conversion.
It is fairly simple to do. If you want the OEM amp meter to work it is a
little more complicated.
The simple way to do it is to buy what is called a "one wire" alternator.
You just mount it and run one wire to the battery. I hope some member can
shed more light on this.

i noticed that there is some talk about converting a 210 model to a belair

keep in mind that if you are doing a full restoration and you don't mind
crusin junk yards and flea markets, you can completely change the 210 model
to a belair.

when i first started learning about 57 chevys, i did not know the
difference between any of the models

my title said belair, the quarter panel stainless was in place showing
belair, therefore i thought i had a belair. so did the guy i purchased it
from. he bought it two months earlier at the Atlantic city car auction
where it was advertised as a belair. easy to fool most of the people most
of the time

i decided that since i was doing a full restoration i would bring
everything back as if it were a belair and there are many belair owners
that look at my car and cannot tell it was changed

don't miss anything or somebody at some show will be quick to point it out

i do it all the time (in a polite way or keep it to my self)

Bob,first I would like to ask list members take a moment, and have a good
thought for Dale Earnhardt and his family.Secondly,I enjoy receiving chevy

list. What I would like to ask is, a few years ago I saw a country music
video
on t.v. I believe it was the Everly Bros., I think the name of the song was

."On the Wings of a Dove". Anyway ,it was about some guys taking a 57 chevy

convertible from a junk yard and bring it back to life. Did you ,or anyone
else see this video? I sure would like to find out if it would be possible
to
acquire a copy of this video.Thanks,Cheo-57 Chevy Sports Coupe

Hi Bob and list members
To add to Graeme Robinsons comment about the link between electricity
produced by coal fired plants to charge electric cars and increased
negative
environmental impact.
Several years ago, I read an article addressing just that---the
environmental impact caused by manufacturing, driving, maintaining and
disposal of electric cars. They talked about the chemical fumes
expelled into the environment resulting from the manufacture of exotic
plastic and composite materials. Chemical waste from the manufacture of
exotic batteries. The increased issues of disposal of these batteries and
the car itself after it's life is over.
I am sorry I cannot reference that article, perhaps some of you read that
article or saved it for reference.
The conclusion arrived at by the author was that the total negative impact
to the environment caused by producing an electric car far outweighed the
positive impact by many times.
Great List
Thanks Bob and list members for your time and effort keeping it going

There is a BODY BY FISHER SERVICE NEWS #3 for 55 Station Wagons and Sedan

They can be purchased from " late Great Chevys". They deal in 1958 to 1964

<< Since I'm writing I would also like to address a few issues for the
betterment of the list since I know you are too nice a guy to say
anything....

1. In response to those that ask for websites such as for the
Pomona
Swap meet...to find a site use the 'Search' function on your browser.
Just
put in what you're looking for and you'll get a mess of sites to check
out...one will be what you want. It's a waste of Bob's time to post those
kinds of messages.

2. For those that ask about basic tech questions... most all of
this
type of info is in the shop manual for the particular car...if you are
planning on restoring or working on a car, just go out and BUY the shop
manual. You cannot expect to work on a car without it. It will answer
all
your questions. You can get them for $20 to $40 depending on the source
and
condition. Then if there's something not covered, ask it here. Please
don't
waste Bob's time by posting elementary questions.

And finally, a friendly response to the person looking for a car and LIVES
in Pomona. You MUST be kidding since you live where the largest amount of
hobby cars are ever for sale. (Pomona Swap Meet)
And for all those members that are easily insulted, these comments are not
meant to be rude, just in my humble opinion about time someone said
something.

Bob,
In response to the above e-mail, I think Marc misses the point of this
list.
Everything he mentions that people shouldn't waste your time writing in
about
is exactly the opposite. This is what the list is all about, to save the
members time and money looking elsewhere for this information. And usually
when someone asks a question like the one of the above, the answer is
beneficial to more than just the person who originally asked the question.
For example, when the person asked for the dates for the Pomona Swap
Meet,
I'm sure when a response was written with those with those dates, more than

one member wrote those dates down.
I can't speak for you Bob, but I would think that you created this list
so
people in our hobby could find a quick, easy and inexpensive answer to 'any

question' regarding 55',56', or 57' Chevys.
- Warren

Editor's note. All opinions are welcome on this list.

Mike Love and one of the other original members are still together as the
Beach Boys. They still sound like classic Beach Boys, although they don't
have quite as much harmonizing since the other original members are no
longer
with them. Brian Wilson is doing his own thing these days. My friend was
playing the latest Beach Boys CD for me a few months ago, and being a 25 yr

old, not bad!! But obviously I appreciate the finer things in life, hence
I'm on Bob Ford's list! By the way, John Stamos from "Full House" produces

and plays drums for the Beach Boys nowadays.

Hi Bob-I'd like to ask the following questions:

What is the color of a 1957 Chevy WCFB carb? Is it all silver or is the
lower (middle) portion bronze with the top section silver? Was there a
color
difference for different years or vehicle application. I'm specifically
interested in the color for a 57 Chevy.

I have removed the engine out of my car and left the powerglide in place. I
want to change the front seal prior to installing engine. Can I remove the
converter without draining the transmission? The trans is full to the
proper
level with trans fluid at this time.

Thanks for the space, Bob.

Hi, Does anyone know out there if a floor mounted shifter was available
(stock) for a 1957? I am pulling parts out of a 57 4 door wagon and
unbolted a floor mounted shifter from the car. The way that the assembly
was in the car looked totally stock. This console shifter had an original
section of the flooring that fit the floor perfectly. The console also
had
a clock that was molded into it at the front of it. All of the wiring
looked stock (no splices) and the linkage looked too bulky to be after
market.
Can anyone shed a little light on the subject? Thanks, Bob Ford

Bob,

It sounds like the console you are describing may have come from a
'64-'65 Impala SS or a '66-'67 Chevelle SS. These utilized a 3" diameter
clock in the console.

I hope this info helps.
