Here is some advice for people that are thinking of going to Windows ME.
DON'T DO IT. It is a lot of pain for very little gain.
I lost all of my e-mail and most of the files of e-mail I had sent out.
I hope I have recovered from that bad experience.

Editor's note. The second generation Turboglide (59-61) would handle 270
hp with no problem.
They will bolt on a 57 but you must change the transmission extension (it
contains the speedometer gear)
to use the one from a 57 and drill mount holes in the front of the
transmission..

I need some help on 56 Chevy Delco wiper arms and blades. I have 2 pairs
of
the original Delco electric wiper arms and a pair of satin-finished Anco
blades. These blades are obviously not correct. Where can I find a pair
of
the original blades for the Delco wiper arms? How can I identify them so
that no one can try to sell me blades that are not correct? I thought that

someone a little bit ago had NOS blades for 56 electric wipers... Also, I
only need one pair of the arms for my car, so the other pair is up for
sale,
or trade for the blades. These arms are very nice. Stainless is perfect
and
the chrome bases are good. The springs are unrusted too. I figure the
best
offer $60 or over gets the them, unless someone has the blades I'm looking
for!

Editor's note. NOS wiper blades(the rubber part) may be fine for show but
they are probably to brittle to work.

Kim's recommendation on fixing your hood hinges is a good idea. The only
problem is that it is a temporary fix and not a solution. I used to do this

back in the 70's but quickly found out that it does not last. If a person
cannot afford rebuilding your hinges, I would suggest new heavier hood
springs. I have these available for 30.00 a pair. These are made stronger
than what is available in repro. There are two things that wear out in a
hinge. 1. Where the rivet passes through the hole in the hinge is metal
rubbing against metal. Over time the rivet wears the metal and the hole
becomes out of round. This allows for a loose fit. 2. The hinge pieces that

are touching wear into each other. If you have ever noticed when a 55-56-57

hood is closed and the rear of the hood is up a little? This is from the
hinge being worn at the rivet hole.
I remember closing the hood on my first 55 and as quickly as possible
pushing the rear of the hood down from one side to the other. Of course
this
had to done before anyone noticed my hood sticking up.
Another common problem is the hood does not stay up. This is caused by
weak
hood springs and /or worn hinges. The heavier springs will take care of
this.
If you have undercoating on the bottom side of your hood you may want to
remove it, this is extra weight on the hood.
As Kim stated, never use any lubricants on the hinge at the rivets. Once
this reaches the rivet hole the hinge looses its friction and will not hold

up.

As I stated before I offer a hinge rebuild service.

Bob, thats quite a letter from Ralph Winston , bet you feel good about
helping someone like that, could you put the info about that on the site
again? I am in Northern California and I get a lot of parts from Doug's
Chevy
Parts in El Sobrante 1-800-79-DOUGS, I have known Doug for years & he is a
real good guy to work with. Don Peterson,Historian SJCCC . I have a
complete
cargo/spare tire well from a 55 station wagon for $100.00 if someone has a
rusted out area, should work in a Nomad '55-6-7 also. DPete57@aol.com

Editor's note. You bet that story made me feel good. A happy ending to a
sad story.
I urge everyone to forward that web site to everyone they know. It is a
wonder to me how many
people have unclaimed property. My son had some he could not believe.

Bob.. for the list...

Does anyone out there understand the date code stamping for Chevy Engines?
Tell me if I am correct. The date code on the back of the block has a
Letter then a couple numbers. The letter is the Month and the next numbers
are the day and year. The letter designation starts with January as "A",
February as "B" etc with the letter "I" not used because it looked too much
like a 1. Anyway... a date code of L87 would be November 8, 1957 (or 67 or
77 or 87) . Am I right about this? Thanks...Roger Francis
PS... Bob... are you still coming to Carlisle this month? Would like to
meet
you and shake your hand....

Editor's note. I would like to go to Carlisle but I can't make it. Wish I
could.

Reply to Loal from Midland Texas
I have a '55 210 2 door sedan that my dad bought in 1964. It has those
straps on the posts. I've never looked at any other 2 door cars; I just
assumed they all had that strap!! My car was built in Flint, Michigan and
came to Canada when it was fairly new - maybe the straps were some kind of
Canadian thing because the car has no other accessories on it. As a kid
growing up, I remember those straps being on lots of cars of that vintage.
The other interesting thing is that my car has a one piece frame which I
understand is not very common. Hope this gives you some ideas!! P. Morris,

To Ralph Winston! WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That must be a great feeling to hit a
jackpot like that!!!!!! Sending your kids to college is probably the best
thing you can do with that, & paying off your house is next. That is a
SUPER
GREAT feeling, as I got mine paid off about a year ago!!!!!!!! NOW, all
you
need to do is buy your WIFE her OWN 55 Chevy!!!!!!!!!! Richard

Editor's note. Paying off your home loan is for most people the best
investment they can make. Both money
wise and for the peace of mind it brings. I hope nobody on the list is
heavy in tech stocks.
If anyone is interested in the details of how paying off you home is a
great investment, send me a private
e-mail and I will explain it.

Bob, I just want you to know that you are doing a great job on this list,
High Prices, Low Prices, or even give away s you print it all. The 5-6-7
Chevys' 2 or 4dr are very sought after, due to their classy design, and
since
everyone used to own one, they now want to own one again. Once, while
pumping
gas into my 55 Chevy, a fellow came up to me and said " I used to have one
just like it only mine was a FORD" ? Boys and girls have got to have their

toys. The price difference even existed when we were all small, some of us
had the best Murray (pedal car) money could buy, others were lucky to get a

plastic tootsie toy. Bottom line they were all TOYS. so lets play.

I agree with the people that think you should so something about the price
of cars you put
on the list. Also you should do something about the price of new cars. They
are just too high.
Someone is making a large profit on new cars.

And while you are about it, do something about the power prices we are now
paying in California.
They are also too high. We are getting ripped off. Since you are in real
estate, you should do something
about the prices of Condos in Hawaii. I want to buy one and move there but
they are too expensive.

While you are at it, do something about the price of gas. At around $2.00
per gallon for premium, how do you
expect me to drive my Bentley.
