Hi Old Chevy lovers,

I have a 55 Belair 2dr sedan. I would like to put an out side sun visor
on my car.
I have been told the sports coupe visor will not fit my car. Is this
true? Might a 56 or 57 fit? If a member of this list has a top that might
fit my car
and would part with it, I would be interested in it.
Thank you,

Can someone explain why you need a proportioning valves in the brakes if
you have disk brakes on all
4 wheels and you do not need one if you have drum brakes on all 4 wheels.

Hi Bob, This is to Mel 56 210. Mel I have put that same setup in my 57.
I
am no expert but I can tell you what I ran into. If you run all accessories

including air AND you want to use the radiator in the V-8 position, you
have
to use the serpentine system. When I did this I first used a belt with
alternator only and original V-8 radiator setup. When I saved enough money
for the air unit I mounted the radiator in front of the radiator support. I

know if you choose to use a serp belt that you have to change the water
pump.
and it is not reverse flow but reverse rotation. As far as I know only the
LT- 1s & 4s use cam driven reverse flow water pumps. As for the exhaust I
am
still using the rams horn. The only way I would use a header is if it was a

full length header. I don't think the block huggers are any better than the

rams horn except maybe looks. good luck. Mike

This is for Gary who needs the anti-burp valve for his powerglide. You can

may have to wait a while. Good luck.

Mike,

Do not use power steering fluid in a stock tri-five power steering
unit. Use automatic transmission fluid, the same fluid you would use in a
powerglide. I don't have the type with me right now, but if you need the
specific type just email me at my home address: Marty28447@aol.com.
If you have an owners manual it should tell you exactly the type to use.
Good luck,
Kim Martelle
-----------------------------------
In response to the above from 7/31/01......
MY question is why not use power steering fluid? I was told to use it by
someone I consider a knowlegable person. I do have leaks in my control
valve. Could that be from using power steering fluid instead of Trans
fluid. I had a control valve leak, bought a rebuilt one and installed it.
It leaked really bad, so I returned it and got another one. I installed it
and it also leaked, just not as bad. So I am now going to install the
third and final one the dealer is going to give me under warrenty. I even
had the pump rebuilt, just in case it was causing the problem by over
pressurizing the valve. So now I am ready to install a newly rebuilt pump
and control valve and I need to know for sure which fluid to use. SO
PLEASE, ANYBODY THAT KNOWS FOR SURE LET US ALL KNOW.
Thanks

Bob - a coupe of things...
On your question "what's a Paul Newman chassis?" - No, not the salad
dressing actor man, but a fellow in Templeton, CA who modifies 55-57
frames as well as pre '72 Corvette frames for late model Corvette
suspension. Information - phone 805-226-9201.

The Chevelle/Monte Carlo disc brake system and Monza Power Booster were
taken a couple of years back from the web site of the Classic Chevys of
Southern California. It is gone - nothing shows up in their tech tips
section - but you used a 68 thru 72 disc brake spindle assembly. The
ackerman is messed up with this unit on turns, but for general cruisin'
it works great and is quite reasonable. The Monza Power Booster was 76
thru 80. This tech tip also pointed out that a '75 IH truck power
steering box fits a 55-57 just fine....

On the 8th day HE created the 55 Chevrolet
(and GMC Suburban Pickups)

Jerry,
I have seen these side window ventshades on a 2dr hardtop once at a car
show in Macungie, PA. The only 2dr hardtop I've seen with these. I've
seen
many sedans and some wagons with ventshades, but I take it the ventshades
for
hardtops are really rare. I didn't think that they were available on
hardtops, until I saw that 56 Belair with them. I would tend to think that

if they were available for a 2dr hardtop, they were available for a 4dr
hardtop, but I never saw them. A rare find!

Hi Bob,

Richard asked about modifying the inside of the 1956 oil bath air cleaner
housing in order to use the Fram CA-151 paper element that I had mentioned
in a previous post. Richard, I have a '57 4 bbl. and the element fits
inside it perfectly. I don't know the difference in dimensions between the
'56 and '57, so I can't answer your question. If you know someone with a
'57 4 bbl. air cleaner, ask them to measure the depth of it and then
compare those results with what you measure on your own air cleaner. If
they're close give it a try. The Fram elements only cost about five bucks.
If there's a big size difference, I remember someone on the list said that
he used a K&N element, but he had to call K&N and give them the dimensions
of his housing to get the right element. I don't remember the part number
of the one he finally got. Perhaps someone else on the list will provide
it for you

Sorry I'm not more help.
