Does anyone know where to find an exploded view of the '56 Delco wiper
motor
and gear asm. I have disassembled mine to repair a broken wire. I figured a

way to get the armature back into the brushes, but a couple of things have
me
puzzled. There is a small felt washer and I'm unsure where it goes. The
reassembled motor has a bumping noise which I think is from too much end
play
on the armature. Does the felt washer go at the end to the armature
somehow?
I'm reluctant to adjust the staked screw at the end of the gear case. Also,

the switch cam link on the end of the gear shaft appears to just be staked
in
place with no retainer on it. Is that correct? Finally, how much grease
should go in the gear case? Does anyone know? Thanks, David Browe

Greetings, and a very Merry Christmas to you, Bob!

Reading your weekly 'list' has been a real joy over the past year. Not only

is a great way to learn a bit more about our classic Tri-Fives, but a way
to
keep up with a lot of very special folks who comprise your loyal
readership.

I've enjoyed reminiscing about The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, and the music
of
the mid 50s to mid-60s. I wish I had a bit more time to write a short note
now and then. I still owe you and one of your readers some additional
information on the THREE Jimmie, Jimmy, Rogers, Rodgers!! The 'father' of
country music, the Chicago
blues legend, and the "Oh, Oh, I'm Falling In Love Again" one from the
50s,60s!! He's alive and well and performing in Branson. We've been friends

for about 44 years!

I might pass along another piece of info to your more "music buff" inclined

readers: Ray Peterson, who graced the airwaves in the late 50s, early 60s
with "Fever," "Tell Laura I Love Her," "Missing You," "The Wonder of You,"
and "Corrina, Corrina," is still in great voice, and, at 67, is still
appearing frequently. Ray is continues to be blessed with an amazing four
octave range! I visited with him--his wife Claudia, two of his six kids,
and
one of his two grandchildren, on Saturday afternoon. He's still a delight.

I thoroughly enjoyed the exchange on Earl "Madman" Muntz several weeks ago.

May the Holiday Season be full of joy and may 2002 be safe, healthy and
prosperous for you and your grateful readers!

Regards,

Fred Vail
Nashville, TN

Editor's note. If you are a 50s music person like I am, I recommend a
video called "Rock and Roll Graffiti". It comes as 3 tapes. It has 37
50's songs by the artists that made them famous. It was recorded in 2001.
As you can imagine, many of the artists have aged a bit but their music has
not changed after all these years.
My son gave me a dvd for Christmas called the "Road to Nashville". It was
made in 1962 and has 38 songs from every one in Nashville at the time. If
you don't like country music you may not know some of these names. In the
video is Dottie West as a kid. June Carter was not Mrs. Cash. Hank Snow is
very young and Porter Wagner had not met Dolly yet.

Bob, thanks soooo much for this wonderful newsletter.
I can't believe how much I've learned and the
enjoyment of reading the human interest stories and
trivia. I'm fairly new to the classic car scene and
need all the help I can get for working on my 210
wagon "grocery getter". Since I drive it every day
it's not a beauty queen but I sure do enjoy it! Have a
great holiday!

It is hard to put a value on a Mohs. As Bob said, they are very rare.
Only a very few were made. Each car was hand made by the Mohs Seaplane
Company in Madison Wisconsin. Does any list member in that area know if
that company is still in existence. They were very expensive at the time
and they only had 1 door in the rear. They were just an International
Harvester truck with a custom body. They had every option available on any
car as standard equipment. They were built from 1967 through 1975. My dad
worked for the Mohs Seaplane company in the late 60s. If you don't want to
keep the car, please lets us know as I would very much like to buy one. Any
condition, any where. If any list member knows where one is for sale,
pleas let us know.

William

Editor's note. I would also be interested in buying one if someone knows
of one for sale.

To CJ, who asked:
"I hate to open up this can of worms again, as I know this subject was
discussed just a while back, but....
Can anyone recommenced the best (ie sturdiest) rear-shock mounting
crossmember for a (non-nomad) station wagon?
I have no preference vis-a-vis bolt-in vs weld-in....

CJ Wilson"
I have a 57 210 2 dr. Handyman wagon and I looked at the rear shock
mount bar from Danchuk, which was a ladder design, CCI sells one that is,
in
my opinion much sturdier, a single 2 inch square, thick wall, bar. this is
the one I used and it has worked out very nicely. The problem with the
wagon
is that the original shock mount areas on the cargo area floor also have
the
slots that the fuel tank straps attach to. Those inverted humps that
protrude
down from the cargo floor have the slots. Those areas (inverted humps) were

torn up and I ended up cutting them completely out and making the floor
flat.
When I installed the shock mount bar I had to modify it by adding some
metal
brackets to attach the fuel tank straps. Danchuk said that their shock
mount
bars will not work on wagons and told me that I would not be able to return

it if it didn't fit. So I ended up with the CCI bar and they didn't give me

any grief about it fitting a wagon (both of their catalogs says not for
wagons). No one could really tell me why they wouldn't fit a wagon and I
believe it is because of the situation with the fuel tank straps. Anyway I
have been driving my 57 wagon for nearly 2 years and the only problem I had

was with using a standard size gas charged shock, the bar touched the
differential housing, I installed air shocks from NAPA and all is well. If
you go to a shock mount bar, remember there are one piece and two piece
frames which are a slightly different distance apart - the one piece
needing
the shorter shock mount bar. If you would like any further details e-mail
me

Hi Bob and all Tri-Fivers out there,
This reply is for CJ Wilson's question about the rear mounted shock
bar
on a 55 Wagon. I did a little investigating some months back about
installing a rear shock bar in my 55 Nomad. I decided that the new "round"

bar offered by CCI would be the best. I ordered a set of rear air shocks
and
the bar and installed them a few months ago. The look, construction and
sturdiness of the bar from CCI is great. My only concern is I'm still
wondering if I installed the right bar and shock combination. It seems to
me
that the bar from CCI mounts too low on the frame and the space between the

new upper shock mounts and the old is quite large (about 2.5"). I may be
dreaming, but I even think my car is "bottoming out" on the rear shocks
occasionally. All things considered, The bar looks excellent, but I'm
still
not sure of its performance. Pete Cap 55 Nomad

To Bill Brady and others:

Any current subscribers to Special Interest Autos, a subsidiary of Hemmings

Motor News, will find a lengthy profile of Mr. Bruce Mohs, his vehicles and

inventions among the pages for the January/February 2002 issue.

There are a number of black and white images of Mohs, his autos --
including
the Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Sedan and the SafariKar -- and several other

inventions such as a motorcycle sidecar that doubled as a small, one-place
boat.

This colorful inventor even went so far as to install a rumble seat in a
1960
Cadillac convertible.

I have no idea as to the present value of this vehicle (could have had two
or
four wheels according to the article) but since he was pretty much of a
one-man operation I can only imagine that it would be quite valuable to the

right collector of two-wheeled conveyances.

Happy Holidays Tri-Fivers:
Hope everyone has a good Christmas! I have a question. As we all know the
traditional trophy for award winners at car shows seem to sit on the
kitchen table for about 48 hours then they seem to be taken out to the
garage. This year we would like to give our class winners something both
useful and practical - its not that easy to come up with something is
it? I am helping a fellow out that has a laser engraver, he also does
color sublimation, glass etching, etc., so we can put our logo on about
anything. Anyone have an idea? PLMK

I am not one who normally concerns myself with
political arguments, however, I think everyone who
visits this site should be aware of Senate Bill 1766.
This bill, if it becomes law, could result in the loss
of individual rights for people who have, keep,
restore or use old cars for personal use or for income
(sale of parts). It will also hurt those people who
can not afford later model, more expensive cars.
I found the information on Senate Bill 1766 at
www.steelerubber.com
I suggest everyone go to that site, find the article,
read it and take what ever action they feel is
appropriate.
