You will note I have changed the introduction to this list. I can not know
the quality of the
products offered for sale on this list. People perceive quality
differently. What for one person
may be excellent quality may be poor quality for someone else. I also can
not know the honestly
of people selling things. Most people in the hobby are honest and
trustworthy. Sadly to say,
some are not. If you are buying something sight unseen, please be VERY
careful. If it is a
expensive item, try very hard to find someone in the sellers area to look
at what you are buying
BEFORE you pay for it. Although many Chevy club members will checkout
something for you
in their area and not take any money, I suggest you either pay them or make
a donation to their
club.

Buying something you have not seen and from someone you do not know is
risky. I invite list
members to share their experiences, good and bad, from buying parts, cars,
etc from someone a
great distance away. What did you do to protect yourself in the
transaction.

Somebody told me the 58 Nomads were a completely different car than the
55=57s. Is that true?

Mike

Editor's note.
Are you the Mike Love that made a ton of money singing about a fine Chevy
engine the 409?

Hi Bob,
I just started installing a 605 Sterring Box in my 57 Chev. and want to
install a tilt steering column also. I have a col. from a 67 full size
Chev.
and I want to use a column shifter. I know what I have to do on the bottom
as
far as installing the angled shifter lever in place of the original
straight
one, but my problem is where the column comes up and connects to the under
dash at the instrument cluster. The 67 column is to big in diameter at this

point to fit into the curved part of the inst. cluster and also this part
of
the column can not be tightned down because it has to be free to move with
the shifting from forward to reverse and park etc. My question is , is this

just a column that cannot be used or is there a certain modification that
can
be done that I don't know about, or is there anyone that can tell me of a
certain type of vehicle I can use a column out of. My only other
alternative
is a $600.00 "I DID IT " column and I'm trying not to go that way right
now,
if you know what I mean ! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My email
is
Fifdee7@aol.com.
Thanks a lot

Custom made Buffing station, made to buff stainless steel and other parts
possibly gun parts prior to bluing.
Heavy duty 2 inch boxsteel frame with four separate 8-10 inch pads and
with a large sanding wheel on the end. It is also set up to do some round
(lathe work ) on the back.
The unit is powered by a Baldor 220 volt 5 horse single phase motor which
is belted to a main (jack shaft). From there the power is carried by two
belts to the main shaft with the four pads on it.
This is a nice set up where you can put 4 different gritts on the
various pads and get done quicker. The main shaft sits on 4 heavy duty
pillar blocks and it seams to spin about 5000 rpm and it is almost
impossible to slow the machine down. With the Baldor buffer you only get
two buffers, and with this one you get 4. My plans were to buy it use it
and sell it to someone else to either use on their on car or to buff for
money. Check it out. $400.00 and you pick up

I would like to place an ad for a 57 bel air I would like to buy.

I'm looking for a 1957 Bel Air 2dr hardtop rolling chassis, or with the
motor, either will work. Needs to have all/most of the chrome, a straight
body that would require minor body work, if any. And also have enough
interior remaining to be repaired. I'm a poor college student, so I cant
afford a beautiful car, but I'm quite ready to put all the manpower into a
vehicle to make it nice. I'm only interested in cars that are within a
days
driving distance of north Texas. I would really appreciate any offers, and
consider them very seriously.

Great Job as usual Bob. In response to our request for 1956 Nomad
production numbers, we have the following: 7886 three times; 8103 twice,
am
still confused, but will assume the 7886 is the correct one since it has
come up 3 times. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Bob,

I put up the website I communicated to you with past issues of the
57-56-55 Chevy List for people like Daniel who have lost the old ones.
The url list members should use to access it is
http://clubs.hemmings.com/chevylist/chevylistarchive.htm I am intending
to add a links page with some of the urls that have been in the list
such as some of the members home pages and car club home pages, but that
is not ready yet. If anybody has any suggestions, of what they would
like to see there, such as a picture of Bob, or whatever, they may email
me suggestions.

How did the automobile doors that open "backwards" such as on the rear
doors of 60's Lincolns and Thunderbirds and some modern custom hotrods get
to be known by the term "suicide" doors? I have been asked this on more
than one occasion and being the creative husband and father that I am, have
always just made up an answer ... does anyone know the answer for sure?

Bob In reading your recent list about the Nomad production numbers I
wonder if anyone knows the production numbers for the 58 Nomad. My dad
owned one in the early 60`s but sold it when the tranny went sour (
turboglide ) .He tells me that it would go as fast in reverse as in forward
. It had the spears on the tailgate but of course it was a four door. I
can`t remember seeing one since. Thanks again for your efforts one this
list. From this list I was able to purchase a very nice pair of inner
front fenders for my 55 a few months ago. Paul

To"Frugal"Bob in Chico

. Assuming you can find a plater that would accept work prepped by
someone
other than himself, one of my concerns would be that any flaw in his
chrome work, would be blamed on your prep work--can you imagine the
ensuing
battle you would have on that one! Probably the most important question
I
would ask myself is "do I have a good plater".

We all hear the horror stories.

Although I am most interested in the L.A. area, perhaps list members around
the country could contribute the names and locations of the good--- as well
as the not so good--- platers in their area. This information could help
us
make informed decisions minimizing our risk during our selection process.

Thanks and good luck to Bob in Chico.
