I am looking for 3.5 to 5 yards of a fabric originally for a 1958 Bel
Air. The Detroit Book # is 842 for the fabric which is called "Coral".
It was carried by Ciadella (now part of Cars One) but they ran out of the
fabric and are reluctant to reorder the fabric from the maker. It was a
reproduction fabric with shinier metallic sheen than the original.

Does anybody know of a large fabric or upholstery shop that might carry
this item? If so please contact me at m_bach@juno.com

Thanks for all the help on my 56 chevy! I am going to have to remove the
heater core, if anyone knows the simplest way and if there are any special
tools or instructions, I would appreciate hearing from the experts on the
list. My car is a 56 Bel Air with factory heater and no factory air. Thanks
again!

Bob; I also am installing a V and the Chevrolet emblem on my trunk and
wanted to ask if anyone with a 56 Bel Air would send me the measurement to
install, like how many inches from the chrome key lock on the trunk to the
bottom of the V and also how many inches up to the chevy emblem. Thanks
again

Bob, you are correct in suspecting that a virus is sending out proxies of
your email list. I got one with an attachment, and remembering your
warning
that you never send attachments, I deleted it. Thanks for keeping us all
on
our toes. Jan Mowrey

Editor's note. Just a reminder to everyone that this list is NEVER sent
with attachments. If you get anything from me with an attachment, delete
it immediately.

a slide showing at least 25 - 30 '55, '56, and '57 Chevys parked inside a
fenced area. I waited until the presentation was over and asked the guy to
tell me the story behind the slide. He said that he took the picture
sometime in 1958 or 1959. The cars were all confiscated by the Brazilian
government because they had been smuggled into the country to avoid the
payment of import taxes. . All of these cars were loaded onto barges and
taken out into the deepest part of the Amazon river and dumped!!!! What a
waste!

I have to finally get rid of my old 76 chevy van (lots of memories
there.....)

Anyway I plan on stripping it as much as possible and will be putting 350
from it in my 56 project car.

I need to find a reliable pickling method to hold the engine stable once I
remove it from the car. I have heard several methods but wanted to run the
question by those of you that have been successful holding a motor for an
extended period of time (I have to wait until I remodel the kitchen before
I
can/get to resume work on the project car. This may take a year or two)

Any help would be appreciated.

You talked about donations to "your" college. I receive a PHONE call every

year asking for a donation. My theory is that back in 1962 when I started
to school, we generated a contract - you give me an education, I give you
money (plenty of it). You have completed you portion of the contract as
have I. Contract completed! Therefore, I do not need to give more. Just
my opinion - I know others do not agree.

Greetings, Bob, and fellow 'Chevy List' readers!

The wonderful thing about our hobby (dare I call it 'sickness'or
'addiction':), is that it promotes great fellowship and a way to meet some
absolutely nice folks!

When I was at the "Bow Tie" show in Nashville three weeks ago, I was
'parked' next to Herb Spies--who is a regional rep for CCI. Herb gave me a
number of 'pointers' on how to improve my '55, and offered to send me a
chrome tail pipe extension (the one with the 'bow tie' logo on it). It was
a wonderful gesture of friendship.

I called Herb this weekend to ask a few questions about improving my car
for the Mooresville, NC "CCI" event, which I hope to make on August 3/4.

I also met Marlon Echols, another Chevy List regular. Great to meet all the
folks who I often read messages from in the Chevy List weekly e-mails.

If any of you are planning on heading to Mooresville, let me know by e-mail
or via Bob's "Chevy List." Would love to say 'hi' in person!!

On a completely separate note, three weeks ago I visited the National
Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, about an hour or so north of
Nashville. While I'd drive 'by' the museum and GM plant a number of
times--and attended one of the opening festivities in '94--I had never
toured the plant or the museum. You see, The Beach Boys headlined two shows
that were tied to the Museum's opening weekend and I was invited by the
group to 'tag along.' Carl, who passed away tragically on Feb 6, 1998,
asked me to 'emcee' the second show, which I gladly accepted. It was the
last time I would introduce The Beach Boys as we know them: Mike, Alan,
Bruce, Carl.

As I approached the museum and saw all the bricks and large stones that
cover the walkway and entrance foyer, it struck me that it would be a great
way to 'remember' the late Dennis Wilson, the 'spirit' of The Beach Boys
and it's most flamboyant member.

Dennis was, perhaps, the very first 'teen idol' to buy a 1963 Corvette
Stingray, which some say is the greatest 'vette ever.
So, I decided to put together a fund to purchase a large etched stone as a
remembrance to Dennis and to also request that the museum establish an
exhibit to honor "America's Band" for all the great music they've shared
with us through the years. Songs like "Fun, Fun, Fun," "I Get Around,"
"409," Little Duce Coupe," "This Car of Mine," "Spirit Of America," "Down
At The Drive-In," as a much as part of our love of that era as our great
classics are.

I am about 80% of the way to being able to contract with the museum for the
largest stone. If any of you would like to contribute to the fund, $350
will enable us to include your name on the stone; smaller--yet, equally
needed contributions, will enable us to get some additional 'original'
memorabilia for the exhibit (like an original poster or lobby card from
"Two Lane Blacktop," which starred Dennis, James Taylor and Warren Oaks.

If you wish to contribute, feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone ASAP.
We're trying to tie it all down within the next week to ten days.

Thanks for your support!

is
backin out of the battery. What's up? Do I need a new voltage regulator?
Sure would like sum advice!

Hi Bob,

This message is in response to Greg Pharr's question regarding A/C and
disc
brake recommendations for his friend's 57 Chevy. I have Vintage Air's Sure
Fit A/C system in my 55 Bel Air and can highly recommend that set up, with
one caveat. Vintage Air's Sure Fit systems for Tri-Fives are nice in that
they require no cutting of the dash. They merely replace the original
under
dash heater system. They also utilize the original heater controls for
activation of the A/C and heater. My one cautionary word would be with
regard to the mounts that come with the complete Vintage Air kit for your
alternator and A/C compressor. These mounts rely partially on the two
front
intake manifold bolts on either side of the intake. I would not use the
bolts supplied by Vintage Air but would instead replace them with name
brand, grade eight bolts. Both bolts on my system have failed, causing me
no small amount of grief to remove them from the cylinder heads.

Greg also inquired about disc brake kits. I have a set up sold by Classic
Chevy International and am quite happy. Greg, if your friend plans to use
dropped spindles in the front, be sure to purchase ones that are compatible
with the disc brake brackets you purchase. Ideally, you would purchase
both
from the same vendor at the same time to ensure a proper fit. Hope this
helps
