I was wondering if any readers have gone to either the SEMA show or the
AAIW-Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week shows. They are the same week
in Las Vegas and one friend said there are bunches of booths and vendors
to see at the show. It takes up the whole convention center. Details
are available at www.semashow.com

Hi Bob and Club members,
Bob, I would like to ask you and the club members for help if I can
please. I am working on a 1997 Chevy S10 Blazer (not my 55 this time) it
is
a 4x4 with a V6 auto. Here is my problem, When you slightly step on the
gas
pedal and let it up you will hear a tinning sound coming from the
trans/flywheel area, (maybe a bad flex Plate) we pulled the trans back and
checked the flex plate, the plate looks OK but we replace it anyway it had
some nick in it on the engine side. The tinning sound is still there.

We unbolted the trans converter from the flex plate and slip it back
toward
the trans and then started the engine, the sound is still there. We you
are
sitting in the vehicle it sound like the fan is hitting the fan shroud, the

shroud is plastic and it has not been hit. Do you have any idea of what
could be wrong? Maybe the end play in the crankshaft?

Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

I know it has probably been asked before, but I need to know if anyone has
a diagram on where to place the bolts for installing front seat belts on a
56 chevy 2 door post. Many thanks, Bobby

I have a 1956 Chevy with 265 V8 and a four barrel. I'm hoping that some one
on the list might be able to help me locate a lever that I have been trying
to find that is not reproduced.

One end of this lever is attached to a clamp that attaches to the
Powerglide. The other end of this lever attaches to the lower kickdown rod.
I know that the six cylinder lever is different than the eight cylinder,
and
there might be a difference between the years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Val

Bob

Thanks for sending me the dvd on the history of the Beach Boys. How did
you make that DVD. I though you could only play a DVD, not record one.

I heard Brian Wilson last Sunday morning say their first name was the
Pendaltones. Somebody just put the name Beach Boys on the records.

Fred Vail, was that you that changed their name? My guess is that managing
the Beach Boys is like herding cats. Not an easy job.

Robert Kinsen

Editor's note. DVD recorders are available but they are not cheap. VCR
tapes will degrade over time (I have already lost some old vcr tapes) so I
am converting all of my valuable and rare vcr tapes to DVD. Hopefully dvds
will not degrade.

Hi Bob,

This message is for Terry Pittaway who asked if anyone knew where he might
find side view mirrors for his 72 Caprice and a period correct radio. I
can't help with the mirrors, but can suggest a couple possibilities for the
radio. Both Kenwood and Custom Auto Sound make radios that are licensed by
GM and have bowtie logos. They both fit in the stock dash location without
cutting. Both are updated sound systems even though are made to look like
period pieces. The Kenwood features autoreverse cassette, 60 watt power,
Dolby, AM/FM, music search, and CD changer controls built in which directly
operates Kenwood's separate 10-disc CD changer. The radio sells for
$394.95
and the CD changer is $369.95. Custom Auto Sound's USA-5 model for the 72
Chevies sells for $289.95 and includes a CD changer controller, radio push
buttons for AM/FM, seek and scan, preset buttons for 30 channels, 100
watts,
autoreverse cassette, fast forward and rewind, and electronic tuner. It's
companion 6-disc CD changer sells for $274.95. I have a USA-5 for
tri-fives
in my 55 Bel Air and am pleased with it.

All of these items are sold by Classic Chevy International in Orlando, FL.
Prices quoted are for members. Nonmembers pay roughly 5% more. Classic
Chevy's toll free telephone number is (800) 456-1957. In case you're
wondering, no I don't work there or have any ownership in the company. I
just live in Orlando, and am a member. Hope this information helps.

SEMA Action Network Clubs and Contacts :

Next year, Congress will begin reconsidering the nation's six-year-old
highway law, the "Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century" (TEA-21).
TEA-21 determines where the taxes collected from motorists will go (it
governs the level of federal highway funding) and has serious implications
on American mobility, highway condition and safety, and even overall U.S.
air quality and fuel economy.

TEA-21 reauthorization will address, among many topics:

* How much federal funding will be given for highway construction, repair
&
maintenance
* What can be done to improve highway safety
* What can be done to relieve traffic congestion
* How safer and more useful roads serve to protect rather than degrade the
environment

To find out how your car club or association can work to ensure that
America's highway system continues to receive the Congressional attention
and funding it needs, please consider contacting the American Highway Users
Alliance by phone at (202) 857-1200 or via e-mail at
cherylhollins@highways.org <mailto:cherylhollins@highways.org> .

The American Highway Users Alliance is a SEMA-supported nonprofit advocacy
organization serving as the united voice of the transportation community
promoting safe, uncongested highways and enhanced freedom of mobility.

With your help, we can all enjoy safer, less congested and more useful
highways.

Re: Lenny Schaeffer and his rechroming w/Bumper Boys.
I am glad you were successful. My experience was quite the opposite. I
gave them a "heavy" front hood bar. They returned a very light imperfect
rechromed one with several scratches. Although it took 2 more tries, I
finally got one that was just "OK". Not the quality one would expect.

The above person listed that he had a '72 Caprice convertible. I think it
must be a '73 or newer if a Caprice. The '72's were Impalas. I sold them
when new, and I've always been a convertible buff. Never saw or heard of a
'72 Caprice. Makes a big difference when searching for parts, etc.

> "Can someone tell me how that band knew all of those songs that were
older
> than the band members?"

Thanks for your great question, Ron Carlson. The answer is simple: The
bands
of today, the majority of them in their late teens, early 20s, know GREAT
MUSIC when they hear it. The wonderful music of the 50s, early 60s--the
music
that we all grew up with--will stand the test of time. Some of these songs
are literally 50 years old! Others--the majority--are 35 to 45 years old.

Can you imagine folks in 40 to 50 years sitting around singing Britney
Spears
or Ozzie Obsborne favorites? How about all those great (sic) rap songs and
hip hop ditties? No way, Jose! Give me Leber and Stoller, Goffin and King,
Brian Wilson, Buddy Holly, Jeff Berry and those great oldies every time!

Last July 5 I traveled to Ashland, KY to visit my old friends, Beach Boys
Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, who were appearing at an outdoor festival
there. Must have been 35,000 to 40,000 folks spanning four generations.
There
were kids four to six years old being held on their dad's (and grand-dad's)

shoulders, and the kids were singing along to "Fun, Fun, Fun," "California
Girls," "Surfin' USA," "Good Vibrations," "Little Duce Coupe," and other
Beach Boys classics.

At least two of the current Beach Boys stage band members were not born
when
Brian was writing those great songs! Then it dawned on me: It's not the
singers anymore (my dear friends Carl and Dennis Wilson have long passed
away, Alan Jardine is out pursuing his own solo career after a slit with
Mike, Brian is doing his own tours). No, it's 'the music' that is the real
'star' now.

Also, 'thanks' to OvalRace25 and Jim Morgan for telling me about the
Pleasanton "Good Guys" show this coming weekend! It won't work out for me
on
this trip--the schedule is a bit too tight and I have to be back in Sac by
4:30 or so, but I really appreciate your input. Have a great week, y'all.

We had a discussion at our last club meeting about what American car
company sold the least amount of cars in 1955. I told them that I bet the
people on your list would know the answer. Anyone know the answer?

Here is another questions that I would like the answer for. In the 60s or
70s GM got in trouble for putting what motor in their Olds cars?
