On wagons, to remove the tank, you'll need to move the rear end out of the way..........

I hope your kidding me?... so whats my alternative ?

If you put the car on a lift, OR jack the car way up in the rear supported by stands under the frame, release the shocks off the lower mounts, then Maybe the rear will drop down far enough to get the tank out? Is it leaking? Are you sure you need to remove it? The sending unit and pickup can be removed using the above technique without complete removal of the tank...

not leaking fuel has been in tank for 45 years condition of sending unit ( sock on end of it) not known ....so i thought i would remove have it dipped and cleaned and replace sending unit if needed
-
It's probably cheaper and better to get a new tank than to mess with cleaning yours. Sending unit is 0-30 ohms but imo I'd replace it anyhow with a new one. It's probably rusty too.
