My newly acquires '57 Nomad (Barn find of 30 years) had a hood installed by a previous owner. All gaps are fine but the back end near the windshield is elevated by about 3/8" on both sides. Any help on how to lower those two hinges are very much appreciated.
Can you just move the hinges down on the cowl? If not, your hinges may need to be lubed. The only other thing you can do is shim the hinge away from the firewall at the bottom bolt.

Actually you need to shim at the top bolt, or between the hinge and hood at the back bolt. Just the opposite of what your first thought is.
Trust me, it works.
Hmmm, I would think you'd want to force the FRONT lever down, so it would in turn push the back lever down to bring the hood down. I know on my custom hinges I can adjust the length of the link between the front of the hood bracket and the front lever to make the hood go down in back. I would think that shimming the bottom of the hinge at the firewall, or the FRONT of the hood bracket would do the same thing. I don't understand how doing what you said would bring the hood down. Shimming the top bolt would tend to move the front lever downward.

The trunk hinges work the same way. This stuff is actually in the shop manual.
Try it on your parts car sometime.
