Which one brand seems to be the best, Optima, Interstate, Wal-Mart - seriously, who makes the best and why?

NCW have you checked out the Odyssey battery series. I use them and I really like them alot. Here is some info for you to check them out.

Oh yeah the reason why I bought it in the first place is because its smaller but packs a big punch.

I have always had excellent service from Sears Diehards and I can't remember ever buying another brand.
All the batteries out there are only made by a couple of manufacturers. There's usually no difference if the specs match.
Optima and Odyssey batteries are attractive for trunk mounts and other special applications because they don't have to be vented to the atmosphere.
One thing that kills hobby and high performance deals is improper charging and unintentional discharge. Suitbable charging equipment will help a lot.
There are no "silver bullets" in the battery deal.
I like Optima's. Especially as Rick L pointed out, in a non-vented area like the trunk. My current Optima is 9 years old and still going. Being in the trunk, it doesn't get hot (like under the hood) and is exposed to very little vibration. I found the best price at a battery store here in Pensacola (not sure where else they might be) called "Battery Source".. $169 bucks. When my old 9 year old Optima kicks the bucket, I'll buy another one for sure.
A yellow Optima is a deep-cycle battery and is recommended for cars that sit a lot unused. That's what I bought for my Nomad.

Thanks Laszlo. How old is your battery? Still good?
Yeah, I bought the dang thing when I thought I was going to be done with the car "soon". I think that's been 4-5 years or so. I've had it on a battery tender most of the time, and it still holds a charge well. I've used it to run my seats, but not much else. Don't know how it cranks, but I'm assuming it's good.
