Anyone have an idea as to why my replacement frame has 4 large holes in it but the old one don't? These are in the sides of the frame. There is one right behind the trans mount on both sides of my new frame, then about 25 inches back from that is another set. Convertible frame maybe? Im a bit worried. Hope the pictures help. Well the pictures didn't work the way I planned. I cant find the picture with the holes. They are about 2 inches. Edges are rolled in. Ill have to take another tomorrow. Sorry. Danny
Sounds like factory holes. Trans mount? Are you talking at the bellhousing? Convertible frame has a huge x member.

They look like holes to get access to bolts or something. Doesn't have an x so I guess I'm good there. Thanks for that information! Just seems funny how one frame has them and the other don't. There is one on the front of the rear spring mount that they both have. So you can get to the spring bolt..I just have 4 extra on up the frame. I thought it meant something. I'm sure they are factory with the rolled edges.

Hey, Nick, could those holes be where the "flux capacitator" is supposed to go? Being a frame guy, you're supposed to just know (no picture) these things.

There are actually 3 different types of frames, 2 types of 2-piece and one seamless one. Your original frame was a 2-piece as I can see in the pics. It was probably one of them that was made at a different plant. I have noticed that the rear crossmember is riveted on one type, and welded in on the other type. There are other design differences too, the most obvious being the different front a-arm bumper area as you can see in this picture.
