Just got back from a WY deer hunt

I was invited by a new acquaintance to go to northern Wyoming to hunt deer on his brother's ranch. We left last Thursday morning and got there before dark...there were deer all over the place. There were 5 of us hunting and we were allowed unlimited doe/fawn tags, so we each bought a bunch of them. Most of the deer on his place and in the valley were whitetails, but the mule deer were around in herds in the hills too.

We went out after breakfast Friday morning and by the time the bullets stopped flying, we had 7 deer down. I shot two myself that day, but took a lot of running shots and missed them. It's hard to hit a deer running full speed at 100-200 yards! The guys I was with hunted by doing drives through creekbottoms and the deer came running out in every direction. My first shot was at 250 yards at a running doe. Wow, that's a tough one...I missed.

We drove around Friday night and saw several herds of 30-40 mule deer up in the hills a few miles away. There must have been 300-400 deer or more. We didn't hunt much Friday night so we got nothing.

Saturday morning we went out and immediately saw deer and got a couple on the ground within a few minutes. A few hours later we had 9 more deer. It was like a rabbit hunt.

We got 16 deer in all and filled all of the tags we bought. We spent all Saturday evening and Sunday skinning, cutting, and grinding deer. We made 6 different kinds of sausage, some hamburger, and I brought back some loin steaks. We sampled the sausage for breakfast and it was great!

Just got back home this morning. It was a fun trip. but a lot different than my bowhunts.

Well Sid, I didn't take any kill pictures. They were does and fawns. I have a couple pics of us with 4 of them hanging skinned in the barn, but that's all.

Sounds like the only thing that would have made it easier would be to have them lead on a leash in front of you!!!
