    12 bolt rear ends

    Is there a 12 bolt rear end that will bolt to a 57 2 door hardtop without changing the spring locations? I have a 55 posi-traction 353:1 currently installed but it has developed a whine.

    A direct bolt in, sadly, no. Spring pads are never our friends.

    I agree with above, however some of the coblers on other board claim a 2nd gen Camaro perch local works on these cars. In that case hp 70 Camaros had 12 bolts. Camaro springs are wider and perch's are designed totally different. A second gen Camaro is also 61 inch wide rear as opposed to 60 in 55-57.

    As you may know, posi traction was not available in 1955 so someone has installed it.
    Whine noise usually means a bearing is going bad.
    Twelve bolt rear ends are hard to find and expensive.

    I have never paid very much for a 12 bolt or a positraction carrier but I am always shoppimg.
