    rtv for main seal

I have seen a lot of discussion about what type of RTV to use when installing a new main seal, or whether to use it at all, and where to apply it. Ideas? I know the Best Gasket 3711x is considered the one to use, but I see no consensus on the RTV side. Any ideas or experience on that would be appreciated.

The Permatex oil resistant RTV works well for me. Just a dab on the mating surfaces of the split seal, and another dab spraringly in the groove. Don't use so much that it spreads out past the intended surfaces when you install it.

Looks to me that the Permatex Ultra Black would be the one to use then.

Yes that would be fine. Actually any of the colors available will be fine in this location.
