Hood dent
My hood has a big dent in the middle of the hood, looks like something hit the crease (see pic). Don't want to use any filler on the hood because of engine heat etc..
I made a tool with a rod that fits perfectly in the crease of the hood on the bottom side. If I push real hard the dent is gone but returns soon as I remove pressure. I was thinking, place the tool in the crease in the center of the dent and give it a good smack with a hammer? Is that a good technique or is there a better way. Please advise and Thanks in advance.

Yes that should work. I fixed mine that way, using a 2x4 with the end of it shaped like the inside of the crease.
Give some though as to how to support the hood while you do this. On mine I placed the hood on 2 stands that had pipe insulation on the top of the stands. Judgment call on how far apart the stands need to be. I guessed appropriately. Just guessin' to remember but I think 12-18" apart.

Rick, can I do it with the hood installed on the car/hinges or should I take it off and use stands?

Rick, The fix work with the hood installed on the hinges and the tool I made. I had to use a lot of force using a sledge hammer to remove the dent but it worked perfectly!
I'm getting pretty darn good at this metal repair work. LOL
