    is this possible?

    What is the likelihood of my flex plate ticking the starter under load, causing my rattle? It sure sounds like it is coming from that area. Before I drop the starter thought I'd ask. Original powerglide.

    Out of curiosity have you tried higher octane fuel yet? I'd try that to see if you can eliminate the problem as being detonation. To me, without actually hearing it, it sounds like it's preignition or detonation. Preignition is caused by something hot in the cylinder like carbon deposits.

    I personally doubt it's your flexplate but again I haven't heard it. I would think it would rattle all the time if it was.

    BTW, it would have been better to continue this conversation on the prior thread as all the context is lost here. IMO.
