Almost 20 weeks after I shipped my A/C bracket to Ogden they shipped it back yesterday. Sounds like they're really busy and they had some issues with the part. Jose and I had a great phone conversation and he was as talkative as usual. He explained why aluminum is so hard to chrome, especially to re-chrome since most acids that attack chrome, copper and nickel attack it too. There were some large pits in it under the chrome that look to me were caused from a vise when the part was made. If I recall correctly this is the one I had S&P modify so it didn't stick the A/C compressor out so far from my valve covers. Anyhow, it looks like those pits are what caused the peeling, probably from stuff trapped under the copper or some repair that S&P did on it.

And here's the finished part $420 later . Jose told me I should have just painted it instead, but it was a choice of painting the other side (alternator) that seems to have good chrome or re-plating this one.

Once I get it I can mount the A/C compressor and get the belt on, then try to get the engine ready to run.

After all of that I would be kicking myself for not just painting it, and not having to clean one more thing.

You have balls just publicly telling us how much that cost to chrome.
So I give you brownie points for the transparency of that.
    Be proud of the bracket.
    It looks great.

I knew what this was going to cost me to have re-chromed and I mentioned it earlier in this thread. I talked to Jose at Ogden Chrome before I sent it and after I sent him some pics. He told me $400-500 and that's when he told me he would paint it if he was me. I whined a little and he said he'd try to keep it around $400. I told him no hurry on it, but I did need it to fire my engine up.

It would have been easier and cheaper to just de-chrome and paint both brackets, but one has good chrome. So I decided to make them match with good chrome. I knew what I was getting into and I've never taken the easy or cheaper way out. I've not been know to cut corners like some guys would and I think painting would have been cutting corners. It might have looked just as good with the brackets painted engine color but I made my decision and went with it. They pay shipping both ways which would have cost me maybe $30 so that helps. Money isn't that big of an object to me as I'm determined to finish this car regardless of cost.

You obviously still don't get it do you RD? Maybe that's why your 55 is sitting and "rotting away".

For what a quad turbo 16 cylinder 1200hp 496ci Bugatti engine costs, it would look and run much better if the whole engine was chrome plated.

I fail to comprehend how chrome plating the engine would make it run any better. By your last post, that's what I read at any rate.
