Cleanable oil filters

When I was an aircraft mechanic all of the planes we worked on used cleanable oil filters with screens. When you took them out you could tell right away if there was any engine issue.

I saw these at SEMA and thought they were pretty cool. They started out in the aircraft industry and I found out the company is in Colorado (Colorado Springs, I think). The filter housings have a magnet in them to see if you're getting any wear of steel parts, and the screen filters smaller particles than a paper filter does. Plus they look nice on a dressed-up engine.

I don't remember the pricing but they're not cheap. But they do improve filtering and look good.

They look small, as if you'd have to clean often. Am I right or wrong on that?

Edit: I just looked over the link, and I find traces of snake oil. The only graph in the "technical info" area doesn't have any units. In the "testing" area, they claim power and torque which is BS!

I didn't think they were that small. And if your engine is in good shape you shouldn't have to clean it very often, right?

In general that's true but in a high rpm engine the valve springs create a lot of trash.
