Aftermarket control arms don't fix all the deficiencies in the stock suspension because they don't move the pivot points of the a-arms. You still end up with a 60 year old suspension with a little more caster. Tubular lower arms do nothing to improve handling.

Looks like he needs to paint that drip rail. Were they body color from the factory? Nice 56....even though it's RED!

C'nut , he's planning on painting the rail . They flow so much better when they do. All nomads came painted with the roof color

One more question Mike. I'm going to buy the weatherstrip retainer from Mr. Nomad (even though it's absurdly expensive ). I want to get it drilled and fitted before paint. Looking at the pics of the liftgate, I assume all the screws are hidden with the hinge cover on? I swear I don't recall my Nomad ever having that retainer on it.

CN: If you are referring to the simple retainer across the top above the liftgate? My understanding is that '55's didn't have it, but Chevy added it for the '56 and '57 model years. The factory used raw metal tack welded to the body and painted with the body, then crimped down when the weatherstrip was applied. I recently installed new upper liftgate weatherstrip on my '56 and I was amazed to find that metal in great condition (with some original paint on it!).. whereas it had rusted away on my '57 Nomad, so I will need to replace it before I paint that one. I'm considering using a 'body adhesive' to retain it.. although most people suggest using 5-10 pop rivets to hold it to the body. I would definitely suggest using a sealer along the edges of it regardless of how you decide to retain it...

PS. Mr Nomad sells them in raw metal or stainless... but for a man with your talents, I think it would be VERY simple to make that piece from your choice of metal...

Yes that's the piece I've been discussing with Mike off and on. I didn't know Mr. Nomad had them in both materials. This is the only one I see, in stainless.

How hard could that piece be to make? It seems like it's just a simple bent piece of sheet metal? I have a 48" sheetmetal brake....if I knew what it looked like I could probably make it and save myself $55 plus shipping.

Anyone have one of these? What are the dimensions and metal thickness?

Weve used both 20-22 gauge for our vertical retainers. Should be fairly easy for a person to make . I've heard of people using pop rivets but I personally haven't. You have to be aware of where the hinge cover is if you use screws.

I was only aware of him making them In stainless. News to me! I guess you could use the steel and spot weld it like the factory.

If you make one I would buy the rubber for reference .
