    56 Smoothie bumpers

These are not made aftermarket and it's a ton of work to make them yourself. I have no idea what the quality of these is like, but you seldom see them for sale. Just getting them chromed is around $1200 each. Might be worth looking at....

Even if the chrome is good, its not likely that they block sanded the copper plating for a straight wave free reflection that some of us want to achieve.

At $2400 for front/rear bumpers, or even $1000, it sure makes you think about their original functional purpose, and looking at alternatives. Good that they aren't required to take 5 mph impacts, like they did in +- 1975!

RD.. if you feel the need for the 5mphimpact bumpers.. on your 55, you could always borrow a couple of those 'shock thingees' that they installed on the 75 era cars and incorporate them onto the back of your '55 bumpers..

I spent many, many hours building my front smoothie and paid $1100 to chrome it plus a couple hundred bucks shipping back and forth. It's hard to tell it's welded together, even on the backside. The rear one is finished, but not chromed yet. Nobody better think they're 5MPH bumpers.

You can buy aftermarket smoothies for a 55 cheaper than that, but the chrome, while I've heard is pretty good, is not really show chrome. If show chrome is what you want, you'll spend at least another $700 to re-chrome a new one. I personally think bumpers have to be nearly perfect or they're an eyesore, just like bad glass.
