Custer, yes the matte clear is more difficult to shoot and it has to be right the first time, or you do it over. In fact, Matt found a spot in the hood brace today and when he tried to remove it, he screwed it up so he'll be re-doing it. It actually shows defects in the primer a lot more than I thought it would too.

Rick, we're wet-sanding everything by hand.

Today I finished sanding the body, the driver's fender, and got the tailgate sanded to 1000 grit. Matt finished polishing the top of the hood and the driver's fender and we spent a little time on sanding and polishing some small parts. He still has to do a little polishing on the edges of the hood before it's done but they're already sanded.

Tomorrow Matt is going to finish the hood and polish the body. He said it shouldn't take too long to do. He still has to spray the gloss clear on the front splash pan and touch up some minor stuff on a couple of parts, so I took the door hinges for him to paint gloss orange since I'll need them to hang the doors. Then after re-painting one or two small parts with the matte clear I can take everything home.

I went over to Matt's late morning today and he was still sanding and polishing on the body. The guy is really picky and saw stuff I could barely see without him pointing it out. Apparently my sanding at a slight 45 with 800 grit caused some ripples at the tops of the quarters that we needed to get out. We did some more sanding with 1000 and 2000 grit and some final polishing. Then we un-masked everything and I sanded the dash with 1000 grit and Matt polished it. After cleaning it, we loaded the body and one fender into the trailer and it's back at home. I didn't get any pictures because it was dark outside but I'll try to get some tomorrow when I unload it.

Matt still has to polish the outside of the tailgate and touch up some small parts that I screwed up on tomorrow. Then it can all come home Wednesday, almost 6 weeks since I took it over.

Six weeks for paint, cut and buff isn’t bad, and looks excellent. We cut with 1000, 1500 and 2000 on the black 56 and turned out pretty well, although there are a number of other grits I’ve heard others use, too. Nice work Laszlo.

Thanks Richard. In those six weeks I was gone hunting for two of them, and to SEMA for another week. Matt was gone for one week hunting and he had a lot of other work he had to do in that time. Most of the time he worked on my car was when I was there, and my records show that I've been over there 12 days since I delivered the car on October 12th, so we actually worked about 2 1/2 weeks for prep, paint, and polish so far. Matt worked parts of maybe 2-3 days when I wasn't there and not all of our days were full days. It still seems like a long time, and it was a lot of work.

I think you and your painter did a great job getting the paint finished... but of course, you'd done a tremendous amount of prep work/prime before that time.. you should be proud! It's great.
