Sorry, I was asking about the stock 55-56 speaker grille on the dash. It has a bunch of holes in it and I was wondering if you could see stuff behind it when the stock speaker is gone. My VA ECU connector is pretty much right behind it.

CN, I think if your items behind the speaker are 'dark colored' and there's no light coming in from behind the speaker grill, it should 'appear' dark..

Yes that's what I'm worried about. I have some floor lighting next to my console and I'm thinking it's going to light up the area behind my speaker grill when the light is on. I'll deal with it when the speaker grill is installed and put some kind of shield behind it if I need to.

I found out that the pins on the emblems have quite a bit of taper to them. The outside "BelAir" emblems and crests actually have pins that are right at 0.100" at the base. I picked up a 4-40 die but couldn't find any 4-40 nylocks at the hardware store so I'll have to look elsewhere. I went ahead and used a 6-32 die on the air intake "V" to thread those 1/8" studs and it worked out well.....it took quite a bit of torque to thread them, more than I expected, but at least the studs didn't break off. I then ran a 6-32 screw through the nyloks to make them easier to install on the studs. Not sure I want to try threading the Nomad script studs though, so I'll be looking at other options for it. On the speaker grille BA script I used some small heatshrink tubing on the studs and it seems to hold pretty well.

How about using a thin piece of plexiglass behind the grille? I didn't use the grille because I wanted it to match the clock and instrument cluster.Attachment 10308

Thanks Allen, that's kinda what I was thinking....putting something dark behind the grille, but not attached to it. I'm using the VHX gauges with the black face and white lighting......same with the VHC clock. I'll see if I need anything and deal with it accordingly. Even a piece of black cloth would work. Just have to figure out how to attach it somewhere.

Taking a little break from working on the HEMI55 floor I decided to do some more polishing. I finished polishing the two front upper quarter window stainless and put them away. Then I decided to disassemble the hood latch and polish it.

The safety latch was originally made of aluminum and had no handle to release it. I fabbed a handle out of stainless and made a new stainless latch, then welded them together. After polishing all the pieces and re-assembly.....

Here is a too simple idea I just tried. A refrigerator magnet sticks right to the backside of the mesh. You could even paint a color, or design on a sheet of it. It is so easy you could make several different ones. I'm all out now but you can get some good magnet sheet material at a sign company.
