Check this out. Nord-Lock lock washers!
Just came across this today a friend posted on Facebook. Nord-Lock locking washers that make every other method look obsolete. I'm going to try them for sure, and they are even available on Amazon. Using them on header bolts would be a good place to use them, and endless other things you want to stay tight I think.
According to them it's better than lock-tight which only glues the joint together.

I doubt they would be the ticket for header bolts though. Especially with some gaskets. Despite what they say, they do rely on friction - the serrations on the outside have to have friction to the bolted material or the nut/bolt head.
I'd think they'd work great on smooth metal surfaces where you can apply the full rated torque of the bolt. But that's where other types work pretty good too.
Any idea on cost and availability in SAE sizes.
About $2.20 ea. (Stainless 5/16)
