Way back in the last century, I redid a '55 Chevy Bel Air 2 Dr. Sedan ; VC55Lxxxxx that came from Monterey, Ca. Took me from '76 till ' 82. Since all sheet metal was rust free, I did it body on frame. This was perhaps more difficult for me since I chose to strip, scrape undercoating, sand blast and paint sheet metal tan , frame light blue and suspension black in DuPont Centauri paint. My hopes were to replicate the earlier customs with a J.C. Whitney tube grille, and Lees custom tail lights. The car was in a Popular Cars magazine in 1983 . His Halverson wrote the article .
I was a member of CCCI ; number 8320.
I am preparing to redo an old friend's '57 210 2 Dr. sedan . He brought it back from Tucson to Michigan in '83 . It has been stored in his barn ever since.
I can tell you all that the worm gear from a '63 Impala will work in the stock steering gear housing to give a splined shaft for later columns. I had to use a C/K truck rag join.
I also designed a spring loaded extra hood-lock to eliminate the hoods flying open . Still have a print .
After my '55 was done , I joined M.H.R.A. for a while. Detroiters end up infected by the car bug . I'm 73 years old and still have the desire to (re-) create cars . I now live in The Villages, Fl.
I do need to find out who sells zero offset disc brake rotors .
