    A mid-engine car should certainly have a cornering advantage if properly designed (I am thinking of the Fiero when I think of such a car that was not).

    What concerns me is...... If you are in a mid-engine car and run into something...... Little crush zone between driver and front of car and being sandwiched between engine and front of car...... Even if engine does not come off mounts (and many do)...... Isn't something I would like to experience, no matter how many G's it will pull in turns. Especially in a car having a body made of material that will explode into a thousand razor sharp frisbees on impact even in front engine form.

    So I'll pass.

    My Porsche handles like a go-cart. You can make a quick turn and it instantly responds. It's just amazing how much difference there is from a front-engine car. And it's only 2800 pounds.

    I think not having an engine in front is actually safer, as there is more room to absorb impact energy. With a front engine, there isn't much "crumple zone" before the engine has to move back into the passenger compartment. IMO there are a lot of advantages to a mid-engine car, except they're usually 2-seaters.

    Yes! Mid engine = better cornering & handling overall.

    I've had my eye on a neighbors blue Z06 2014, but he wants too much for it and it's dropping in value every year.
    Better off buying that 50's and 60's era vette....they are going up in value.

    "The Bowling Green Daily News reports that Chevrolet will stop building the 2018 model on January 22 after a total of just four months of production.

    Chevy is still scheduled to build around 9,700 of the coupes and convertibles by January, according to the newspaper, so 2018 cars won’t exactly be rare, but they may end up being among the last of their kind."

    When I was building my Poncho powered '56 Chevy at the auto hobby shop on base whilst in the service, there was a crusty old Chief who was getting ready to retire and he was building a mid-engine '66 Corvair. Had an adapter plate that adapted a 327 'Vette engine to the factory '66 - '67 Corvair IRS and required flipping the transaxle around in addition to building some structural pieces that tied into the unit body and mounted the engine where the rear seat used to be. Said he was going to drive it from California to his home in Colorado when he mustered out and wanted to make the Pike's Peak run later that year.

    it sounds like your fellow Navy Chief was using a 'Crown kit'... popular back in the 70's for putting V8s in corvairs. I had a friend in college (early 70's) who bought a crown kit for installation in his '66 Corvair. I sold him a '59 283 which he rebuilt and installed in it... what I remember most is that with the V8 engine sitting in front of the transaxle, it didn't leave much room for 'seating'... especially for taller individuals... I can't recall specifically, but I think he installed fiberglass seats without upholstery to help that situation. Later he removed the corvair body and built a 'monocoque chassis' using mostly 1" mild steel square tubing and ran it without a body for years, mostly in autocross/slalom events.. He also installed an 'old school' Hillborn fuel injection and ran widened wheels and blue streak goodyear tires... scary!

    Yes, I believe it was an adapter plate made by Crown, Bama. The Chief had built one of these mid-engine Corvairs before and he knew what he was doing. It was winter and he only had a couple of weeks to finish it. I imagine it got pretty hot in the passenger compartment even though he was heading for Colorado.
