1956 Bel air convertable XXX car

First off I am new to this forum and new to any type of forum. I am trying to find out information on my convertible. I purchased this as a unfinished project. The previous owner was doing a completed frame off. He was building it to sell at one of the high end auctions. My question is that the car is a XXX on the trim tag for options. It is factory black and is a Power steering, power brake, A/C, Power windows and seat with Continental kit. basically every option for 1956. My question is What is a XXX car. I was told that it could have been a GM executive car but Im not sure. Does anyone know what this car is.

Welcome to TriFiveChevys.com, Mel! Sounds like you have a special order car there. I ran into one (a '55) many years ago that was special ordered with nonstandard options by the brother-in-law of a Chevy dealer. It was for me 'the one that got away'. I couldn't come look at it until Friday after I got off work and got there just in time to see money change hands and the car being loaded into an enclosed trailer 'to be restored for a private collector'.

Wish you all the best with your '56 convertible. Had a buddy in high school who had one and we had lots of good times in that car (a real chick magnet back in '65).

    Happy Motoring,

    Harry

Must be one of those mystery '56 cars with a 4 speed and BBC.

Looks like it's considered a "special order", whatever that means. Maybe it was some custom paint combo, trim combo, or something like that.

Could be a special order deal but even that could be something that doesn't appear on the car. I've seen quite a few posts about strange cowl tag markings that apparently didn't mean anything.

And, the most important thing, the "XXX" doesn't give you any clue at all at what may have been special, unless there's something on the car itself that leads you to think something. With it torn down, frame off, anything special may already be gone. Remember that the cowl tag only notes the paint, interior, and glass - doesn't say anything about special options (RPOs).
