    NEW MEMBER............OLD GUY

So lets see where to start. My first 57 was a panel wagon 409 two fours with a t10 with 488 gears .That was in 1970.Still own my very first car a 61 Vette.I have a 1956 210 southern rust free wagon in the garage with a 1956 corvette two four motor and a 1957 Belair 4dr hardtop all original v8 auto car. Do all my own work on my cars but having trouble crawling under cars {wish I had a lift}.I have spent my working life working in GM dealerships in the parts department.Currently as parts director in large Chevrolet store in North Carolina.

Welcome Old Guy! I say that, being one of the generation (HS graduation 1965...)

My first car was a 56 Chevy 2dr HT, factory black, power pack, 3 spd OD, and power windows. In '65, I build a 301 (a DZ motor before GM did it), with 461 fuelie heads, 340HP hi riser, 30 30 cam, muncie 4 speed, 5.13 w/M&H slicks. I wasn't too smart with the M&Hs, since they weren't groved. It was a little tricky in the rain (but tried to avoid it), but was pretty quick otherwise.

    Again, welcome. Dick

That description fits my old buddy George who ran the parts dept at the Olds store for 40 years, most all the independent shops in town bought from him. When my Dad and I did a Minor restoration on his 68 Mustang he bought new in the 90s we got our Ford junk from him. He had a deal with a Ford dealer that allowed him to buy stuff right. All of my old friends in this business are retiring and not being replaced with the same caliber of individual. I was trashed on the other site for making fun of Slow Riley's, Idiot Zone. and Retard Auto parts. A good parts man that kept his books is an old car guys best friend.

I have to agree some what about the NEW breed of parts guys. You cannt put all the blame on the new kids. They are told all they need is year make and model or the vin and they can look up anything.Well sometimes but you have to have some background of how a system works and what parts do what.Plus you have to listen to what the customer really wants.Plus you get what you pay for.
