I love your news letter and look forward to it every week. Thanks for all
the hard work and I hope it lasts for a long, long time.

Bob Seeing a recent post about Poor man`s power steering ,the needle
bearing kit that replaces the rubber bushing in the idler arm. I am
rebuilding a 55 with manual steering and have put one of these kits in and
was wondering how effective ,if any this modification is.does anyone have
any comments about this. On the topic of the plane crash that killed Buddy
Holley, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens it is my understanding that Buddy
Holley chartered the plane to fly himself and his band ( Waylon Jennings
and one other guy) ahead on the tour. At the last minute Jennings and the
other band member gave up their seats to Richie Valens and The Big Bopper
and the rest is history. Once again many thanks for this list Bob

Bob can speak to what happened to the old websites that are no longer

about this list, they may go to http://clubs.hemmings.com/chevylist/ and
see an archive of old lists. If members would like to send me pictures
of their cars, and a little text information about themselves or their

Bob, I would like to add a comment about your test to check for a short. I
found this test worked until my wife got a spark while holding the wire to
the
positive terminal. Well I learned a lesson right on the spot. Connect the
Test lead
to the NEGATIVE post and you will not get a spark, unless you have a old
Ford
with positive ground. Also, if the light does come on during this test,
Disconnect one Fuse at a time. When the light goes out you have the circuit
that is causing the problem.

All of your email list members need to know that Virus/ Worms are sent via

Bob
The 57 Packard was almost identical to the 57 Studebaker Hawk. Studebaker
bought out Packard in the 50's.

In 1963, Chrysler produced the Turbine cars and let people drive them
around. I remember them vividly as I had a model of the car given to us by
a car dealer friend of my parents. I actually saw one driving down Pacific
Coast Hwy in Lomita, Ca. one day as I was walking. I ran as fast as I
could to try to catch up to it at the next light. I thought that they were
the most awesome car ever made.

Thanks for helping to revive old memories and all the others things you do

I think Waylon Jennings lost the coin toss. I'll bet they all had a good
laugh when he got to heaven recently.
Further to the list member who asked about Paul Newman recently. I met
him at the Pleasanton Goodguys event this weekend, and talked with him
for some time about my Nomad. He is a very nice, unassuming guy who
seems to be justifiably proud of his firm's work.
He had a sample chassis on display in his booth, and all work looked
very professional. Apparently he has increased his staff and reduced the
backlog in the shop.
I saw the guy with the 2dr hardtop as well, and he continues to be
really happy with his car's handling since doing the Newman conversion.
Hope this helps and no, I am not Paul Newman or his shill. I just know
there are a lot of options on all our projects, and it's hard to figure
out which one to choose.
Good Luck.

Bob, If I recall correctly the '57 Packard looked very much like the '57
Studebaker since these two combined to try to survive. Same path that
Hudson took with American Motors with little or no success.
Chrysler produced Turbine engine powered cars in 1963 that were very modern
looking and if I recall correctly were painted a bronze color. Apparently
heat durability problems of the ceramic components in the turbine, never
allowed it to be mass produced. In addition, I am sure manufacturers of
the standard IC engines did not want the further development of the turbine
engine.
A turbine powered race car was entered at the Indy 500, and blew everything
away for many laps of the race, until it did have engine failure.

Dear Bob,

Your questions are a bit too easy today! The '57 Packard looked a lot like
the '57 Studebakers - because they were built off the same body (actually
S-P
did a fairly good job of disguising the origins, especially given the short

time in which they had to work). Those 50 cars Chrysler built in '63 and
loaned out for people to use were all powered by a gas turbine engine.

Also, good advice re the electrical diagnosis given to T. Knopp. I might ad

one hint: if the procedure doesn't immediately lead to one accessory
circuit
or another - I'd be real suspicious of the possibility of a bad diode in
the
event that the original-equipment generator has been replaced with an
alternator. If the car still has the original generator, it is possible
that
a bad regulator is at fault.

In any event - be sure to thoroughly check-out the charging system!

Hey Bob, and everyone!

Yes, all TV's, except for the new flat screen monitors use one tube: the
picture tube.

About AC and DC in a car. Yes the current in an alternator starts out as
AC and is converted to DC by way of a rectifier. Your radio runs on DC and

no matter what might happen inside, the current flowing through the speaker

wire, -any speaker wire, is AC. It is actually an analogue representation
of the sound waveform which by definition is AC.

Bob, the 1957 Packard looked like a Studebaker after the two companies
merged, the 1963 Chrysler was turbined powered as was Andy Granatelli's
entrys into the Indianapolis 500 races ( he also owned STP Corporation),I
don't recall the driver, it may have been Mario Andretti. The car dominated

the race until a wheel bearing failed 5 miles from the finish. The rules
were
changed to limit the size of the intake to effectively remove the car from
being able to compete. Back to the turbine powered Chrysler, the cars were
given to families to try for about 3 months, I remember seeing one driven
on
the Greater Des Moines Drag Strip in competition to prove its performance
but
as I recall watching it and hearing that whine from the turbine it was not
well received.

Waylon Jennings was the coin toss "loser" the fateful night the music
died,
I was a Senior at North High In Des Moines ,Iowa and was planning to go to

Try looking into the Hooker 2244s. These are one of the more recent designs
on the market (about 2 years old now) They were specifically designed to
accommodate the Williams kit and at least one other motor mount kit (I

The 1957 Studebaker. Talk about ugly! What were they drinking when
they designed these?? No wonder only about 5000 of them were built.
This according to Consumer's Guide's "Encyclopedia of American Cars

Studebaker".

In 1963 Chrysler built 50 cars that they thought might be the next

Hi Bob,

In 1963 Chrysler produced the "Turbine" cars. Looked pretty good, too,
(for a Mopar!). They burned just about anything, but they couldn't pass
the smog laws, so Chrysler gave up on them. A few are still around,
touring with the Chrysler displays at various events. I saw one not too
long back at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Phoenix. The '66 Dodge Charger
was originally designed to be a Turbine car, but got a piston engine
instead.

The '57 Packard looked a little like the '56 Chevy, didn't it? At least it
did from the back!

The 1963 Chrysler cars were gas turbine powered and were lent out for 6
