Editor's note. When I worked at a car dealership many years ago, I was
told to never buy a new car design the first year. It took at least that
long to get the bugs out. Can anyone relate to that?
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Yes, I can.
Having worked in the Auto Industry for the past 25 years it takes them at
least that long to work the bugs out. Do yourself a favor and wait until
the 2nd year of production or at least very late in the 1st year.

Hello Bob from the frigid east coast. As usual a BIG THANK YOU FOR A JOB
WELL
DONE!
Bob,. I have a somewhat non-Chevy request (but as I will explain later you
may understand). I am looking for a 1958 VAUXHALL VICTOR. It is a British
car that was produced by Pontiac. My reason for wanting it is it was my
first car, my other reason is that anyone that is familiar with it knows
that it actually resembles a miniature 55 chevy. I am on the East
Coast(eastern Pa., and I would be willing to travel some distance to pick
up
a car, but within reason. I appreciate any leads for a running vehicle or
just a parts car.
Thanks,

I blush at the name but SPEED Channel is adding a mix of car shows for
Wednesday nights and calling it "autorotica". (We'll see how many e-mail
filters go tilt over that name!). One of the more interesting segments
is the "Barrett Jackson Car Search" show.

The show will have three teams buying cars across the country in four
categories with a limit of $100,000.
The teams will get a chance to look over the cars, verify the condition
and see what's up. The team that sells the cars for the most at the
auction block is crowned the winner.

Besides that show SPEED Channel will also feature celebrity cars on
"Behind the Headlights", "American Muscle Car" will have new segments,
"International Car shows" will feature 12 car shows from across the globe
and they'll even air some classic car films.

As always, check your local listings for further information. The block
of shows start on February 18, 2004

Recently, on the Chevy list there was a little discussion about the Tempest
of 61-63. The new Hemmings Motor News has the section "Hemmings Magazine"
inside it, and the February 2004 issue has a story about those Tempest's of
that era, with a lot of specifications and data. If you can't find an
issue, let me know and I will learn how to "scan" and send it to you...

Regarding your Editor's note.

"When I worked at a car dealership many years ago, I was
told to never buy a new car design the first year. It took at least that
long to get the bugs out. Can anyone relate to that?"

If we were to adhere to this advice, we should stay away from '55 Chevys.

Hello Bob and List members.

I notice that in the list of cars produced with Fuel Injection, the Bel Air

4 Door hardtop is strangely missing. This would be fine, but I know of one

customer ordered Bel Air 4 dr HT with FI and Turboglide. This cars was
owned until recently by a fellow club member here in Surrey, Canada. The
original and subsequent owners kept all service records for the car until
the present, which made for an interesting history, but also solid
documentation of the cars' originality.

Thought you'd like to know.

Editor's note. The fuel injection numbers for 57s were posted some time ago
and I just kept them.
I can not verify that they are accurate.

Bob, I would throw a monkey wrench in the works. In
the last list you showed a list of production figures
that has been around for many years. Everyone would
like to know this stuff. I can tell you that you
should discount this list as I owned a 57 Bel Air 4
door wagon that I bought from a wrecking yard in Del
Norte Colorado in about 1979. No such entry is on that
list. Also the list shows no Bel Air 4 door hardtops.
Dick Stelk from Colorado had a 4 door hardtop that has
since been sold as he died quit a few years ago. Also
sedan deliveries were not passenger cars, they were
commercial vehicles with a separate body code "D". It
was equipped with a bucket seat with an optional
passenger seat. GM called it an 1100 series. As such
the largest rpo was the 4 barrel 283.
If this info had been from GM I'm sure it would have
been in some order as 120's(business coupes) 150's,
210's and Bel Airs. Maybe Ken Kaiser could find this
information if GM has it. Thanks. Tom Ordway

My brother bought a '55 BelAir (1st year V-8), and when he went to pick it
up, the engine was in the trunk. No oil return. It was a month before he
got it, and it ran well for several years. I bought a '56 210 in '56 with
the 265 & overdrive. Kept it 8 years, and continue to regret getting rid
of
it for another car.

Hi Bob and everyone else out there,
I gotta question. I gotta 350 in my 210 with a quadrajet sittin on top and
waz wonderin what it would take in cash and time to convert to fuel
injection. Iz it worth it? I drive my car daily. I hear you get better
performance and better gas milage but izzit enough to notice??
And then I also hear you can get set-ups from the junk yards too, true?
Like
all of you I liike to save my money but get quality and reliability while
I'm attit.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Bob,
Here is what I was told about the early Chevy fuel injections by a guy
that swapped many of them out for carburetors. He said they were unreliable
and required a lot of maintenance to keep them running properly. People got
tired of messing with them all the time. He told me that he probably
swapped out 12 or 15 for carbs. When I asked him what happened to the old
FI units he said he tossed them in the trash! Somewhere near Baltimore is a
land fill with a bit of treasure in it! Wild Bill

If that were the case, there would not be many 1955 Chevs sold. It is true
there were some bugs, but they were far outweighed by the advantages.

Hi Bob,
I'm searching for a set of the latches that hold the back of a 5-6-7 wagon
rear seat in the upright position.

These screw to the interior of the wagon just above the rear wheel well,
one
on each side of the seat.

CCI offeres them but at $95 which is a bit out of my price range.

If anyone has a set to sell or knows of any, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks. RJ
