    Bob,

Yesterday I listed a rather nice 1957 Bel Air four-door sedan on eBay. It
is item number 2461848084. Hope you can send this along to other list
members who might be interested in a great, starter '57 which, while it
needs a bit of work, could eventually be a show stopper.

Also, cudos for sending along the info regarding the other Tri-Five parts I
still have listed from last week. It has generated additional interest
    among list participants.

Again, thanks so much for all you do for all of us.

Do you think it is legal for a man to marry his widow's sister in
    California?"
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

The answer is NO (if its his widow, he is DEAD). But some other "legal"
issues might come up regarding why this woman is a widow ?

My wife promises not to sell our baby, 59 Vette with C4
suspension/drivetrain, if I die first ! I told her I would haunt her if
    she did !

Did you hear the one where the wife asks the husband if he would remarry if
she died first. She asks about the new wife using various things (wife is
right handed)including her golf clubs and he says no because she is left
    handed !!!!
    Joseph M Rock

Editor's note. I read in the paper a few weeks ago about a man in Texas
wanting to be buried in his low serial number 53 Vette. He was having a
hard time finding a cemetery that would take him. They were afraid someone
would dig him up and steal the Vette. He finally found a cemetery that
would take him but he had to agree to put tons of cement around the Vette.

I need to have a three speed overdrive transmission transported from
Aurora, Illinois (45 miles west of Chicago) to southeastern Pennsylvania.
Is anyone from out that way coming to this area, or anywhere somewhat near
this area? Anyone from out there attending Spring Carlisle? I would drive
a few hours to pick up this transmission, but I can't do the 24 hour round
trip to the Chicago area. As long as the transmission gets to within an
area from like Pittsburgh to Delaware to eastern Maryland to NJ, etc, I

originally by a gentleman and wife from Oakland, California. This car was
sold and bought a few times before it ended up in the Vancouver BC area in
the '80's. It has now been sold again and is in North Carolina I
believe. It was featured in the Nov 2001 Classic Chevy World magazine.

To answer the question about the heads with "X58", the
late 57 castings started coming with an "X" in May of
    '57 and I saw X58 on an August 554 2 barrel casting
and also on an August 997 casting. It appears that the
foundry was preparing for the change-over to '58.
The factory fuel injected Bel Air station wagon I
had was assembled in the USA, Saint Louis as I recall.
The Canadian body tags are very different from USA. If
the dealer was to install an injection, I doubt they
would have changed the fuel line and throttle arm and
ad the electrovac. The front fenders would have had to
be removed to install the FI flags and script.

In reply to your brain teaser, I don't think that a dead man could get
anyone (not even the wackos in S.F.)to perform a ceremony for him in CA,
legal or not. Now, Chicago may be another story...

Rather entertaining, personal story regarding the dead and Chicago: My wife
inherited her grandfather's car (a ten year old 83 Pontiac Bonneville (dog)
with less than 50K miles on it). She brought it from Chicago out to
California and tried to register it. She had the documentation from the
estate which gave her the car as well as her grandfather's death
certificate. However, the DMV would not allow the transfer of the title
since the title was not signed over to her by her grandfather. The
explanation that the man was DEAD, and by the way, here is his death
certificate, was of no relevance to those of infinite wisdom at the DMV.
The family solution? Well, the old guy was a Chicagoan. There's no reason
he shouldn't be still signing documents...

    Editor's note.

I know of a case somewhat like that. This was for almost a million dollars
worth of stock. The stock transfer agent required the signature of John
Doe who had died. If these stocks had went through probate, it would have
taken years and cost a lot of money. The simple solution, John Doe's son
Bill Doe went to court and in a short time had changed his name to John
Doe. Now he could legally sign all required documents John Doe which he did
and got the stocks and sold them. These were Internet company stocks in
the late 90s and the new John Doe was very lucky as the company stocks
became worthless in a few months.

    I have a 55 2nd series truck as well as a 56 suburban (oh yeah and a 56
4 door). Over the years I have collected a lot of parts in lieu of time
to actually get down to working on them

All of the gage clusters I have and have seen for sale for these trucks
have all had a black back ground. MY 55 truck has a red background. I
figured someone had painted it most likely until I saw another for sale
on ebay. I put the question to the "ole-chevy truck list" and most
everyone figured they were probably custom painted. I saw yet another
red faced gage set on ebay and purchased it as well as finding out from
the truck list that another member had a red faced gage.

All in all I know of 4 such red faced gages. The two I now own are
identical in color, a slightly orangey shade of red with no apparent
signs of overspray and appear to be original. It seams to me if they
were custom painted way back when there would be a few of other colors
as well popping up here and there. I know some speedo shops do special
requests and all, but why hasn't someone seen a blue or green
background? In my quest I have talked to a number of folks that either
collect or collected gage clusters for repair and resale and all of them
have never seen anything other than a black background with the
    exceptions of those above.

I always enjoy the historical anecdotes and information this list
provides and was wondering if anyone out there has either come across a
truck gage cluster of a different color than either black or red and/or
does anyone know if Chevy actually made a red faced gage cluster for
    trucks?
