Darn, hit the wrong key! anyway, there are some new die casts out now,
    seen
mostly at Wal-mart so far, maybe some Targets, put out by Funline in the
Muscle Machines packaging. This new release is called West Coast Choppers,
    has an
Iron Cross on a mostly blue package, spider-web in upper left corner. Has
Jesse James name spelled across the front.
The car is a nice light blue '57 Chevy 2 door wagon, looks like 150
series, is lowered and has custom chrome wheels on it. Blue accent flames
    and a
purple roof complete this new awesome NEW diecast. it's a 1/64th scale
    car.
So this is a nice non-Nomad car, albeit custom for this run, and I'm sure

it'll be back in another form and color. Just thought I'd give you
    folks a
heads-up on this new release. Good hunting!

    Hi Bob,

I have a 57 Belair Hardtop that I bought about 4 years ago, it
is titled and licensed. The other day I was looking at the door area
where the VIN Tag is supposed to be and it is missing. I think it may have

fallen off, maybe it was removed when painted before and not replaced
correctly. I don't really know what happened to it. I had
a police check done on it when I bought it, because it was from out of
state. Besides, I always check the VIN with the title first thing
when I buy a car, and I don't remember this car not having a tag. Can
I have another made with permission of my BMV / DMV as long as I have the
title. Or would I maybe have to buy a parts car and use another
number? Has anyone ever experienced this problem? Any help would be
    greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the list BOB!

At times, we have asked about our 55 - 57 Chevs in the movies - and many
memorable ones are brought to mind. My personal memory is the Two Lane
Blacktop/American Graffiti 55 coupe. Hagerty has a survey going where
people are asked to vote for their favorite movie car. I wouldn't want

    Hi Bob,
    1. AOL 9.0 filters out a lot of spam, unfortunately it also keeps some
legitimate messages from getting through. Do you get refused messages from
    AOL
(554 code) from sending the list?
    2. I use Cloudmark Spamnet with Outlook Express for business which does an
    excellent job of filtering spam.

According to AOL, they filter out 85 percent of spam e-mail. They claim
that if they did not filter out the spam, each of their accounts would
receive 1000 e-mail per day. Has anyone tried spam blockers. If yes, how
    did they work.

Hi. In a recent post, there was an inquiry about windshield trim parts for
a '56 convertible. I faced the same dilemma in 1999-2000. I have three
sources to recommend: 1) Classic Chevy International (CCI) in Florida,
1-800-456-1957; 2) Emory Bishop in San Diego, 1-858-569-0582; and 3) Jim,
    in Nebraska, 1-402-391-4843.

We thought we had all the pieces for our car when we started restoration,
BUT WE DID NOT. Obviously, it can get pretty expensive to find the parts
and pieces you need but there's little choice when you're well into the
project. Now that the car is done, it was all worthwhile.

CCI has recently promoted reproduction parts not previously available. If
you fail to see what you need, call anyway and they may have something in
    the pipeline.

    Good luck!

    Bob,
I am looking for Air conditioning vents for a 55 or 56. Their condition is
not terribly important as I am doing a custom interior.I doesn't matter if
the balls are damaged or missing as long as the rest is at least suitable
for rechroming. I realize that a good pair of these is going for a pretty
penny. I was hoping someone had a set that couldn't get top dollar for

Since the infinite wisdom of the California DMV was brought up on the CHEVY
LIST, I thought I would share my story. Last year, the paperwork came in
the mail to renew the registration on my '56 Nomad. I promptly sent in my
check with the insurance certificate and renewal notice. About 3 weeks
later I got back all of the paperwork including my uncashed check with a
note that there was no record of my car. Since it had been registered in
California since new, I thought that was strange, especially since I had
received a notice. Fortunately, a friend who is retired from the DMV put
me in touch with someone who could help. They were able to find the
    records after all.

Bill Kautz wrote in with the following item. The BonAmi story has been
around longer than me but I've heard from reliable sources that it
originated with problems that Caterpillar had with some of their diesels.
    It
didn't usually work but was sort of a "nothing to loose" repair attempt
before the engine was torn down for warranty work. As a side note one of
    the
old mechanics I knew (now deceased) who told me about the BonAmi story was
the service manager for Humes Trucking (Humes Tru-Track Trailers; Watch it
Steer) back in '54 just before the new Chevy V8 was introduced. The GMC
factory rep stopped in and was discussing the soon to be released V8. He
told them "this new V8 will go over 50,000 miles before it needs a ring
job". Everyone was amazed as this was unheard of for the times . Times sure
    have changed.

    URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Legislation to Repeal Old Car Emissions Exemption Reintroduced

    in California State Assembly

Here we go again! As predicted, legislation has been reintroduced

in the California Assembly to repeal the state's current rolling emissions

test exemption for vehicles 30 years old and older. A.B. 2683 repeals the

current pro-hobbyist exemption and replaces it with a provision requiring

the permanent testing of all pre-1976 vehicles. This year, the bill was

introduced by California State Assemblywoman Sally Lieber (D-District 22).

We Urge You to Contact Assemblywoman Lieber and Your Own State Assembly

Member Immediately to Oppose A.B. 2683

    * Existing law in California exempts all vehicles 30-years old and

    older from emissions testing.

    * California's current emissions testing exemption recognizes the

minimal impact of vehicles 30-years old and older on vehicle emissions and

    air quality.

    * Vehicles 30-years old and older constitute a small portion of the

overall vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for

    emissions reduction.

    * Antique and classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained and

infrequently driven (about one-third the miles each year as a new vehicle).

    * Legislators and regulators are feeling the heat from a failed effort

to meet air quality goals and are looking for a convenient scapegoat. The

old car hobby should not carry the burden of their mistakes!

Contact your State Assembly Member to oppose A.B. 2683. Assemblywoman

Lieber can be reached by e-mail at Assemblywoman.Lieber@assembly.ca.gov To

find out who your own State Assembly Member is, contact the California

Assembly's general information line at 916/445-4311. This information can
