I hope to see you (and your car) on Saturday, Aug 14, 2004
here on Mark Circle in Villa Park, California 92861.
Please drop by any time after 1PM. Snacks and refreshments
will be available. There was a great group here last year
and I hope they can come again. If you need directions,
please let me know. It would help me in planning for the
number of people if you
would drop me a note telling me you plan to attend.
Thanks

BOB

I am looking for a 1957 chevy convertible. I was told your
list may be a good
place to find one.

Hi Bob, I don't know if I mentioned this to you, but I will
be in Los
Angeles from 7/28 to 8/2 at my stepsons for a visit, and I
am looking
for stuff car related to do, cruises, car shows, junk
yards, places like
boyds, or chip foose's etc. Do you have any ideas, I know
its short notice,
but Iwill check this before I leave.
I will be on India St, in Las Angeles.
Thanks,

I have several cast iron powerglides that I need out of my
garage.
They are located in the Omaha, NE. area.
Some work, some don't.
Price--free if you pick them up, more if you want me to lug
them to you.
The good part of having them is that the price of scrap
iron is good right now.
You will understand my reasoning if you ever had to change
one in the driveway.
I hate to throw any tri5 part away until I am sure that I
cannot find a home for
it.

Bob, do you know were we can find the piece that goes under
the grill when the
bumper and pan is taken off? Does anyone have a picture of
the window riser for
the 55 NOMAD also? Thanks, Will

I am installing a 265 power pack engine in a '56 that was
originally 6 cyl.
overdrive. I ordered a reproduction carb overdrive switch
bracket since it is
different from the 6. When the bracket is installed, there
is no way to adjust
the switch back far enough to allow the throttle to open
fully, in other words,
the linkage bottoms out against the switch before the carb
is wide open. Since
I've never seen a original bracket, I wonder if the repro
is made incorrectly or
what? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, David Browe

I can personally attest to the rideability and quality of
the Art Morrison
chassis. I bought a "bumper to bumper" package for my Muntz
Jet and am now
considering one for my '55 DelRay. The ride and overall
performance of their
chassis is awesome. My car drives like a 200k sportscar!

I thought you might enjoy this story from my past.

Are spelling, punctuation, and grammar extremely important.
Yes and no. Many years ago when
I was an employee, my job was in a very technical field and
I had to write a report each month on
what I had accomplished. This report was from 10 to 15
pages long and contained a lot of
complicated math, a lot of scientific calculations, and a
lot of test results. I usually spent about
10 hours preparing this report and checking and rechecking
every calculation to be absolutely
sure that it was correct.

The manager of the my department retired and on the first
meetings with the new manager, he
emphasized the importance of spelling, punctuation, and
grammar in these reports he received.
He didn't say a word about the information in them being
correct. My usual practice was to do
the report and then run it through the spell checker and
the grammar checker on my word
processor and correct any errors I found before turning in
the report. But because of my managers
warning I had my report reviewed by another person in the
department just to find any spelling,
punctuation, and grammar errors I had missed. About 3
months later I saw a TV program on
Discovery Channel that dealt with people that read
newspapers cover to cover to find spelling,
punctuation, and grammar errors. It said these people have
an addiction, disease, compulsion or
whatever you want to call it that is just like an
alcoholic. They get great pleasure from finding
the spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors in
newspapers. I thought that was a bunch of
baloney.

On my next monthly report, I though I would put that theory
to a test. I made a couple errors.
To my mind they were inconsequential. I put 2 spaces
between words in the report instead of 1. I
also put the number 2 in the report text instead of the
word two. Sure enough I got these reports
back with a big red mark "showing me the errors". Oddly,
it seemed to me the manager seemed
more friendly than he had been before. I showed my reports
with the red marks showing the
errors to the other employees in the department. They took
this as a warning to spend more time
on making sure there reports were free from spelling,
punctuation, and grammar errors. Next
month's report had other minor spelling, punctuation, and
grammar errors. Again I got it back
with these errors marked in red. This went on for about 4
months. Other employees in the
department, seeing my red marked reports redoubled their
efforts to make their reports error free.

My immediate boss told me that the new manager really liked
my work and I was getting the
largest raise in my department. I almost fell out of my
chair when I heard this. Over the next year
I got 3 promotions that I was not expecting. I got promoted
over people that had been in the
department many more years than I had and deserved the
promotions much more than I did. I
thought I must have been doing something right but I didn't
know what is was. One day at a
going away party for a retiring employee, I sat by the
manager's secretary. She told me the
manager really liked my work, especially my monthly
reports. I told her he always sends them
back with the errors marked in red. How could he like my
reports? His secretary told me his
greatest pleasure came when he found a spelling,
punctuation, and grammar errors in things that
came across his desk. NOTHING could make him happier than
when he got to correct these
errors.

Wow, I was doing something right by doing something wrong.
This is great information. My
manager must be sick or something but if he keeps giving me
raises and promotions, I hoped he
would remain my manager for a long time. However, it was
not to be. At a staff meeting one
day, we were told that the manager had been fired. It
turns out that he was indeed reading and
sending these "corrected" reports to his boss . The only
trouble was he was reading the reports
only for spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors. He
never read them to see if the information
was correct in them. The managers boss had sent the
report's information to the customer and the
INFORMATION had been incorrect. The customer acting on the
incorrect information had
made a multi million dollar error.
