    700R4

As I get closer to my 56 being a driver, I've run in to a problem. I've got a 350, 700R4, 3:42 10 bolt in the car. The 700 was built over 10 years ago, and sat dry on the floor until I installed it in this car a couple of years ago. Lately, I've left my shop and drove it down the road a couple of miles several times. At first, it was late shifting an harsh. I've added some Seafoam trans additive to it. It now shifts smoothly 1-2, and 2-3, but I've never had it shift in to 4th, ever. Before I burn it up, any suggestions? The guy who built the trans has checked the TV cable and says I have it set right. He says he'll come check it.........maybe the governor?

How fast are you getting up to on these trips. The way mine was built it will not hit 4th until about 45 mph.

TV cable is set ok, according to trans builder. Although no speedometer hooked up and calibrated yet, easily 45-50 mph.

I understand the "According to" however I would verify it. All to often it's not.

Well, last Sunday I followed a friend down the road, got up to 60..........no 4th gear. Talked to a friend who owns a shop in town, He had me talk to his mechanic about it, because they had recently had the same problem. He told me what to do and forwarded a website that he used to fix the problem. I thought it was crazy.
I followed the instructions, put the rear end on jack stands, removed the TV cable from the carb, pulled it in and out a couple dozen times, fired the car up and abused it on stands......I could get the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift, but no fourth........disappointed, I took it off the stands and drove it down the road. As I accelerated, got 1-2 shift, 2-3 shift, kept accelerating and........what was that? 4th gear! I still don't believe it! The theory is that the valve body either has a small piece of debris or an air pocket in it from the rebuild. I don't care what it is, I'm just stoked that that problem is solved!
One step closer to a driver........now, get the Juliano 3 point belts installed, and new gauges...........and get my butt down to the tire shop!

    Maybe the Seafoam is working.
