What was the casting no you found (and date) on the back of the block?

The 'C' suffix in 1957 was used only for a 265 ci engine (used only with 2 bbl carb and 3sp trans that year). The first 'F' in the suffix simply means that the engine was built/assembled in Flint, MI. The 6II or 611 is the assembly date for the engine (June 11) of whichever year it was built. The casting no and date will provide the YEAR that the engine was assembled and used.

PS. The 'C' suffix code was also used for '58-64 283 ci engines but always with 2 bbl cars and Manual trans. The C code was never used on a 4-bbl engine, or with an automatic transmission.
