Just returned From Salina I was told around 2800 registered. There were quite a few trifives . Big Daddy Don Garlits was there he even fired up the 392 hemi in the Swamp Rat. I 've went on Saturday the last 4 years and see something different every year, it just keeps getting bigger. drove the '55 first long drive since I got it drivable in 2015 330 miles round trip.

The show had been in Wichita prior to that, but the cops were a-holes and they moved to Salina where the Chamber and rest of town really support it. I have seen flyers for a second show in Texas.

You are missing the best part if you don't go Friday for the drags. Its no prep but still a blast, drive your car far from home and race it.

I had to go to the website and get 'updated' on KKOA... From that website and my search, I learned:

    1) www.kustomkempsofamerica.com/ Kustom Kemps of America is America's oldest running custom car and truck association.

    2) The KKOA, a spin-off of the mystic ’79 Merc/Deuce ReUnion, hung out its shingle for kustom business. October 1, 1980, in Wichita, Kansas. At the first meeting, 14 fateful kustom enthusiasts gathered together to become the pioneer’s of the KKOA. All who attended wanted to join, so to see who would get those low membership numbers, names were drawn from a ’52 Caddie hubcap.

    3) Up and running, the KKOA started producing outdoor kustom shows, with the first being the 1981 Leadsled Spectacular...

Apparently their headquarters is in Cassville, MO .. Perhaps the home of their founder/leader (Jerry Titus?)... and they seem to have two show events per year; one in Missouri and one elsewhere (this year it was in May at Maggie Valley, NC).

I couldn't find anything telling me what year they were in Huntsville, but it had to be in the early 80's sometime IIRC...
